Elite: Dangerous Trailer now with added honesty

To be fair. They could have just updated the cap ship battle trailer. Maybe used in game graphics for it.

That would have been a lot more honest than the new trailer and a lot better.

The point is it doesn't come across as a parody unless you've played the game or heavily researched it. People will see that video and think that's all there is to ED. If you're ok with that then fine but personally I believe a true gameplay trailer by the other person would have been a better option than just showing the slowest parts of the game which is in no way representative of the whole.

FD have the excuse that artistic license is the norm in trailers, what's the OP's excuse?

It's a simple fact that that video is already putting people off buying the game which will do nothing but damage to this community and ED.

The video really isn't putting people off. Most of the comments here to that vein have been sarcastic.

People getting all het up because they think it will hurt the game really must have very little faith in the game itself.

Lets be fair, there is humour in this for people who both do and do not know the game. Just because one guy made a parody, that doesn't mean people will be turned away.

Factor in all those people who also might see the original trailer, think "I dont want to play a rubbishy combat space game", but then see the slower trading stuff and think "actually, that looks more my kind of game"..... You are assuming that people seeing what you consider as "boring" content will put people off, and therefore insulting their intelligence in doing so. I am certain that anybody who is interested in this kind of game will be able to research it and make their own unbiased decision, without any regard for the official trailer, or any parodies that might come of it.

Jag doesn't need an excuse at the end of the day... he wanted to make it, so he did... people certainly shouldn't need to think of a companies/customers feelings before making something like this.
It really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. This game will sell to the people who want it, and a small group of people not understanding the humour (or whatever your excuse for being so against something so silly), really is irrelevant.

A friend actually showed me this video who doesn't yet own the game. He knows it was 'cinematic' and the third person dog-fighting was rather funny.
Though, the moment that ship pull an insta-180 to fire back, I kinda had a w-t-f moment.

Just my opinion - but MRW I seen the original:

Honestly, with regard to this specific trailer, I think people should be grateful it was done by an actual fan of ED and it's more of a gentle poking of the game than a flat out and vicious "they're lying" parody. The launch trailer was begging for this sort of treatment, it was inevitable. And it could have been far crueller than this. So people should just be glad they got this, instead.

Same with every cinematic trailer for any decent game then...

Why attack E: D when all games use this kind of artistic license with the their products, people need to understand the basics of advertising before they make comment like this..what a joke.

They do understand the basics of advertising. That's why they're taking the **** out of it.

ohh so if they did why did they not notice that all products especially gaming have these types of artistic license?

How about the SC2 trailer...Did people expect FPS battles and amazing graphics after seeing that?...or even worse the WOW trailers?

This form of advertising is used for all products from cars to toys to gaming and ED is no different.

Seems to me more like taking any opportunity to bash ED with no reason what so ever, either its that they hate the music or are being "lied" to.

Needs to stop this close to release, if i were a mod i'd have deleted this thread a while ago.

While it's a funny attempt, I think he should have more accurate tried to replicate the trailer

I too believe Frontier should have more accurately tried to replicate the game , we both agree on that. I think.

Being a trailer doesn't justify the extend of misguidance.

Marketing is wall-to-wall . How can you not take the **** out of it? It's embarrassing.

Its a great trailer and there is nothing to take the **** out of here, some people seem to have a lack of understanding that these forms of artistic/cinematic videos are common to all modern day products.

It was well put together and gave me a great feeling while watching it, only people i'm embarrassed for here are those that don't seem to understand how marketing works...

Mods just shut this thread already, you really want this garbage on page 1 of the forums for release?

Isome people seem to have a lack of understanding that these forms of artistic/cinematic videos are common to all modern day products.

They see them all the time and find them funny precisely because they're nothing like the product they're trying to promote. I didn't get a "great feeling" watching it. I thought it was embarrassing.

Good for you, i found it exciting and fun to watch myself.

The music was great and i'm glad they chose a English up and coming band for it.

I didn't feel cheated or that they had lied to me and in fact before i came to this thread i really thought that the same types of negativity we see with ED in many others ways couldn't possibly be in a thread about a short artistic cinematic advert for the game...shame really but no shock just cant see to enjoy yourselves.

I think the trailer was a mistake, ED looks good enough to use in-game footage (with the aid of dev cameras)
.
I also have a pretty good sense of humour however the video this thread concerns may have been intended to be a funny swipe at the official one but
unfortunately it does not come across, to me at least, as a gentle sideswipe. It deliberately shows all the slowest parts of the game, shows clips that
are not related to the activities shown in the trailer and just seems to attack the game rather than parody it.
.
Promo trailers are mostly ignored by players as trivial fun but player made videos can have a far more serious effect on a game and it's potential.
.
These are my feelings and I have no idea as to the motives of the makers of the video, however 'with added honesty' is in fact not honest

Just as my granma ignores ads on TV you mean.

For me it is expected of a "parody" to exceed limits, more than a game trailer.

Just my two peneth,

I feel like the video was a huge miss step by FD, really because the game isn't anything like what the video shows and so posts like this will happen. I don't understand what FD were thinking, ED is not the action packed scene this trailer tries to indicate, even the action that does happen is nothing like it.

This is an amazing game for many reasons but those reasons will only appeal to certain gamers and FD should accent that right now. The games industry in the whole will not understand what the games is all about and even if some do can't really recomend it honestly to everyone because like I've said, this is a niche game.

I've made a few posts about this on my own communtiy forums, many players have seen the visuals and the hype and come to ED expecting something it's not. While this will always happen with games FD need to be very clear from their own media sites exactly what the game is, a gorgeous, deep and immense space game which will require a huge investment of time to get the most from it.

No matter what the intent behind this trailer it stands that it's nothing like the game and so they should be more careful in future. There are so many videos out there of in game footage, like the first guy who smuggled cargo into the station by flying in cold. This was amazing and the reason I got interesting in ED, the problem is these videos don't make fast and to the point trailers because for the wow to happen you need to sit and watch them (and understand what's going on).

I'm short FD, please just accept what game you have here, people will love it for what it is, we already do.

Get a grip, most game forums i know of don't allow a parody and frankly insulting copy of their just released trailer for their game to be top of their own forums. I won't even bother going into politics but i assume by your comment you are a well fed propaganda sheep.

I enjoyed the release video, nothing wrong with it. If you feel it was a bad move then i got news for ya, most game trailers have aspects "modified" for dramatic flare.
