Community Event / Creation The bridge of the ship at home

Very interesting photo!
Primarily interested in two photos at the top right... I can understand that a girl - your relative... but the elephant?

My girlfriend - uh, the girl that is, not the elephant. The elephant is just an elephant getting on a bus.

Wait, what's that on the table? under a pile of papers magazine, and I can read it... it seems CCP? Something to do with EVE-Online?

Hah, no, CCFE - the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, where I recently visited the JET experimental fusion reactor. Was very fun :)

and my other Den, the Conservatory, for when I or the wife needs to shut ourselves away from the kids. and have me time.

it has pretty much what we need to isolate ourselves, Internet/ PS3/ Sky/BluRay

Those dang Americans.....

Hi,

the bridge of the ship at home is actually an ongoing experiment with hooking hardware to simulation(s):

simnumbers2.jpg

sorry, but there's no index to the numbered items.

2 computers drive a total of 4 different displays. one is connected to a projector, with an 8 foot screen (actually sign material, it was too cheap to pass up).

it's actually a 2-seater, the guy on the right sees the same thing that #5 shows via a splitter.

that's why I always like the option to just see "what's out the window" as opposed to overlaying the cockpit interiors.

this shot is the system fired up and running "Orbiter":

for those who want "real physics", you might think twice after running this simulation software.

the computers are getting tired though, and it's not clear that the new Elite will run on this.

No im not that An el, but there is an vague order, all the movies in my collection are Scifi/Fantasy.
I had no idea there _were_ that many sci-fi/fantasy movies! That is, unless you've collected even the bad ones for the mere joy of collecting... :S

Yepp G19 here. Damn thats what I call a cockpit on the above picture. AMD eyefinity or?

Eyefinity, only way to get a single start window in win 8, as out of the box under extended windows on win 8 only sits on one, which is silly, big screen defs are one thing but FOV is another! It needs thinking out especially inside buildings, which can be distracting.

I am glad I am a minimalist because I would never get executive approval for some of your layouts. Laptop, lap tray, seat on the sofa; plus a pen, paper, phone and at least 2 drink mats will suffice.

Here is a picture of my desk:

Alien%20Desk.jpg

The left monitor is my main monitor, I like big monitors. The right one I have borrowed to figure out how to get a 2nd monitor to work (apparently I need an adaptor as they are both VGA)

I have a clock on my desk because I normally lose track of time when playing games.

I have an Apple keyboard. It looks cool but can be a pain to use at times.

On the right is my Competition Pro joystick. It is a modern USB version and I bought it from Maplin just as they stopped selling it because I wanted it for sentimental reasons. It was the joystick I had in '85 when I had a C64.

On the edge where the joystick is you can just see my Sony headphones. I screwed a hook in the edge of the pullout shelf to hang them on.

On the very left of the picture you can just see my HP printer and sat on top of it, my 2GB external hard drive

My desk isn't normally this tidy. It normally has all sorts of junk on it, but I borrowed the 2nd monitor yesterday and cleared the desk off to put the monitor on it.

What you can't see is the white leather armchair I sit in (and no, I am not making that up).

...especially during fast right-left pans

I use softth to "drive" European Truck Simulator 2. it's really good to be able to see both mirrors at the same time.

i'd kill for an actual triple-head arrangement, but never planned to use my dual-head arrangement for wide-screen gaming. I usually work the stock market on the right screen, and play populous on the left.

I like that setup, having your monitor display across both for the photo looks impressive, ive got room for another monitor but at this point in time I cant think what I would use a second one for.

I used to have a desk that was made from an unused door.
I loved that desk and was sad to have to give it away (because I had to move out).

I think I'm going to have to get a desk like that again.
