How will launch happen?

Just a very rough guess.


Servers will go down by design (11AM GMT)

Update and notes published (11AM GMT)

Servers back up online (12 Mid Day GMT)

Online store opening its door for everyone to download already updated game. (12 Mid Day GMT)

First troll post trying to kid that the launch is a disaster and the game is an epic fail (1pm GMT):D

Video clip/ News letter of David thanking everyone who backed the game to get it to the momentous point and wish everyone a happy Christmas / Holiday. ( 5PM GMT)

in my experience Launch happens when your ship is released and you have 5 minutes to leave the docking bay ;)

No no no. You get a more classier Troll in here to make it so obvious. One that try’s to complain / whine or generally be a prat by camouflaging doing so behind a loaded question to try and point out faults and missing features. They naturally fail but its good fun enjoying them squirm. I remember on KS a lot of pledges were withdrawn at the same time at stages to dampen the hype. Only for the effect to greatly help the backing in the end. Just when the Community celebrated achieving a certain amount some of it was pulled. It actually added interest to the whole thing and FD should have thanked them. But it was an Epic fail for the Troll's.

A Troll's natural reaction to a positive post on here about the Game.

Actually I wouldn't be at all surprised if the first troll post is well before 1pm GMT :p

It will be an utter disaster and I'm not a troll. EVERY MMO release in history has been an utter disaster - honestly.

If you expect it to go smoothly you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Just chill, enjoy whatever you get, chat with your mates and realise that they're in this to make money so it will work smoothly eventually.

I've yet to see a single multiplayer release where they didn't underestimate the bandwidth demand, or just didn't have enough available anyway.

I'll be chilling, chatting to my mates, playing ED if it works smoothly, playing other games until it does if not. ;)

I agree. I would be highly surprised if ED got a smooth launch.
I seriously hope so, for the best of Braben, and FD. ..and all the players of course.
Having worked in the business for about 10 years now though, a smooth launch is rare indeed, specially when it's a new game.

Normally when it comes to online games I don't touch them the first week. It's usually no use, as the servers are playing yo-yo, but for ED I feel I need to do constant checks anyway, and see how it goes.

Why not make it now? We all know that online games on the day of launch and possibly the rest of the week are unplayable.

Elite would be the first to be able to play somewhat normally on the first day. And if so, would probably go into gaming history...

I've just deleted Gamma 2.07 from my pc, no trace if it.

I've backed my bindings up, of course and <network > appinfo.

Then I'll just set it downloading at 12:00hr at 2kps and by 23:59hr ,I'll be launching my new career. :D

I never understood how the heck something like this can happen. I have a friend that works with a company that rents out gaming servers and i know its not the only one. I dont get why they do not rent additonal server space for such a launch, especially if they see that their preperations wherent enough. I realy hope this wont be another sim city.
