Update Reverted insurance changes in Gamma 2.06

Bites into mince pie , "I dont think the backers liked the change do you?" , slurps a sherry "Nope , think we mucked that one up a bit " . "Ok change it back I cant be bothered looking at the moaning" , scratches bottom "Ok , Ill make an anouncement on the forum ".

Cheers FD ;-)

I loved Elite 1084 edition. Earth being the flat disc at the center of the universe was so much less stressful on my gpu! Yes I know it was an innocent typo but a medieval version of Elite is kinda fun.

I can see the 1084 forum now. "This game will fail if the ships are stuck to the surface of the ocean. They need to be able to fly and go underwater. This is gaming in 1084 not 1066 for Gods sake!"

Much obliged, guys. Now, let's all pretend the whole insurance controversy never happened.

Carry on being awesome.

Hi everyone,

In Gamma 2.06 last night we made a server-side change that made the ship insurance apply only to the ship, and not to all the add-on modules as it had done previously. This has now been reverted on the live servers to as it was before 2.06.

The team have been working exceptionally hard, so we appreciate your patience - thanks for being tolerant!

Cheers,

Ed
So was this actually a mistake now corrected, or was this intended and you guys changed your minds due to overwhelming negative feedback?

I think reversing the decision was the right thing to do. A lot of changes have been made to costs and profits etc which is fine, but when a promise has been made (even if possibly ambiguous) it needs to be kept. Credit to FD and all people behind the discussion the last 24 hours.
John

PS, I wonder if there should be a tick box for is you want the discount or not when you choose the Commander name. That way we can play equally if we choose. It makes a big difference when in a highly upgraded ship and has the potential to change game play significantly.

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! :D

Indeed! :)

Can't help but think that other thread helped FD to decide to do the right thing.

That said good call and job FD!

THANK YOU! FD had once chance to make it right, and they did. This was the correct thing to do, and I am glad FD decided to act quickly.

For all of those who said we where stupid we should shut up and take it , shame on you. For the rest of us who felt slighted it was important to us that this be reverted. Not only that, it shows that FD is still listening. Even though I was critical of the move, I only made noise because I thought we could affect change and that FD would listen. I was right! That's a good thing for every player involved and FD.

I kept quiet on this one, I hoped FD would see sense that you can't break promises to crowdsource funders on launch day, even if you feel like it's justified.

It was sad enough watching people defend the decision to the hilt as the only logical thing to do.

I wonder what those people will be saying now?

Nothing, they will have to be content filling me with red rep LOL

Bravo and thank you.
Personally not too fussed about the insurance.
It was the change so late in the day that got me concerned.
Thanks anyway.
