Slaves: No Freedom!

There should be an option to free slaves. I was doing my rounds when I get intercepted, it's an anarchy system so I submit and attack. Before the ship is blown to pieces it drops a couple of canisters of slaves.

It's a conundrum, I don't want to deal in stolen goods, but I can't just leave people floating around in space, even if they are packed up into canisters. So I picked them up and sold them on the black market, but I would have prefered to set them free.

I'm now a criminal for saving lives...

Is it only Empire aligned factions that deal in slavery? i.e. - Federation frown upon it?

Federation and Alliance do not like slaves.

The Empire also dislikes slaves although they love their "Imperial Slaves" which is something completely different.

I note there is a slave rebellion going on in a system (I forget which one - it's in galnet), and there are two imperial interdictors on the way - apparently you can give/sell them your federal slaves and they will turn them into imperial ones.

Imperial slaves are more akin to indentured servants i.e. they're paying off their debts by being a slave for a certain amount of time.

The NPC/AI ship I was blasting dropped a whole bunch of slaves.
Didn't realize until the other ship jumped out and I got a chance to scan them whilst floating in space.
I had no cargo space...
I need to sort out my Eagle with some cargo space but exploring and bounty hunting doesn't leave me any room... As it was, there was at least 6 plus containers.
Given the choice, a quick death with explosive decompression or a long lingering one with a very very small chance some other ship comes and picks you up? :(

what I think a tad funnier is I had the same thing happen to me when slaving was brought in, found a smuggler in a USS who dropped a load of slaves, unfortunately the added illegal stolen slave cargo was to much to jump back to my usual BM contact on a nice safe platform so I decided to run the station gauntlet.
Messed up my approach and got scanned *Illegal cargo detected* so the station opens up on me and turns my ship into space dust. My friend who's sitting next me watches what went down and then asked "So you were smuggling illegal stolen slaves into a starport and the place just destroys you flat out.... that's some zero tolerance of slavery they have, didn't even rescue the poor sods in your cargo hold first. Bit nasty no?"

Yea it's a little odd they don't have anything to release them. Even changing the "discard" cargo button when docked to "release" would be sufficient.

Some systems will buy slaves specifically to free them.

Not if they're stolen which doesn't make much sense to be honest (unless we're talking about slave missions in empire where they are looking for legitimate imperial slaves). It also doesn't make sense that the pirate/smuggling missions ask for items to be both stolen and illegal, it should be enough to complete the mission to satisfy only one of the parameters.

"Slaves" to "Captives" with the ability to free them (I think slavery should be abolished, game or not)

Its a game. I like my lore with slaves TYVM

thank you!

I know it's just bits and pixels. But either venting them into space or reselling them into slavery sooo rubs me the wrong way.

Why not 'jettison' them while docked somewhere? Still have to sneak 'em in, but you can roleplay that you freed them yourself ;)

EDIT: Also, if you're in a system with a legit, decent authority (i.e. No dictatorship, Empire, etc.), you can roleplay that you 'called in' what happened to the system authority, and they're coming out to pick them up. I roleplay this way with those sketchy shipwrecks with art and ancient artifacts and such floating around them. I like to keep my nose clean... aside from smuggling tobacco into Sol, hehe :p

Good point - we'll take a look at this.

Sweet! Nice to see one of my threads may have some use for once. ;)

I'd like an option to just free them, maybe even at a cost for new id's/food and what not. Obviously with some rep gain somewhere or other.

Edit: Maybe even tied in with a system for handing in stolen goods for rep.

Just fire a few rounds at the cannisters. They'll be freed of all earthly worries immediately. ;-)

Just as a note, "rescued" slaves get you about 10k on the black market even in the Federation. ;-)
