Reputation is tooo difficult

hi there,

just some thoughts about the reputation system. I read some threads about it, but nothing was really quite satisfiying.

During my first steps into e:d gamma I made some mistakes with stolen goods, which where scanned by authorities when I was docking into a station. my federation status went from unfriendly to hostile.
Now I play for more then one week to get the status back up, but nothing changes, no matter how many missions I do for the federation and their allies, no change at all.
Additional in the system where I am locateted I lost my status from ally to neutral because I failed to complete 2 missions. the same problem with the reputation. no matter how many missions I complete, there is no changing.
I understand my mistakes must be punished, because I did something illegal or I didnt complete the mission, but the gap between good and bad are just too big.
one small mistake and you loose your status, many missions of recompensating and nothing happens. That is quite frustrating. Its seems to be impossible to change any thing there.
hope there will be some changes somehow.

Don't over think it. The rep system in ED is like the worlds biggest onion... lots of layers and it makes you cry. Don't try and 'play' for rep too much. Just do what seems right at the time. If you want to tilt one way then do so but don't get into a blue funk because your rep isn't bang on where you would like it to be. It's way too subtle for that. Relax. Do what feels right. Just remember the words of the Great Oddball... "It's a mother beautiful bridge, and its gonna be there."

Wait and see if it gets any easier after the release - there may have been some adjustments. Or maybe it is a bug, or you're (somehow) picking the wrong missions.

Are you getting 1% changes in rep shown for turning in missions? It ought to take many missions to change rep significantly (like many hours of play) otherwise it isn't much value.

Yeah man, just kick back with a bowl of onionhead and it'll be groovy ;)

Those are changes in influence that the faction has at the station ... there is no numerical value for your rep.

Alternative solution: join the Empire. If you're already in bad relations with the Federation you have nothing to lose by pirating in their systems and just generally being a jerk while building rep with the Empire.

Silly question but you did pay your fines?

yes I did.

@rest You are right about that it shouldnt bother me to much, the problem is when I fly thru fed space and want to dock into a fed station I get attacked. that no fun at all....

maybe you are right and I should change to the empire instead, but I really hate slavers...

This or clear your save and start anew

Hey, we aren't all about slavery. There are many good things about Empire. For one, we have nicer ships! :p

And regarding your original question, reputation raises very slowly. It is supposed to take months to gain some serious rep and that's how it should be.
Then again, one stupid mistake and all your hard work is for naught. Harsh? Definitely. But also fun and realistic. *shruggs*

(btw. is your nick a refference to that czech 80' fairy tale series? :) )

The reputation system is seemingly broken atm. There are lots of weird things happening or not happening. Or maybe I just don't understand it.

It should definitely be less opaque. The best thing would be a log of activities that influenced your reputation because it's just not understandable how it works.

I have no problem with a bit of randomness like a corrupt authority vessel busting you for seemingly nothing. Getting hostile with the feds for no own fault can be an interesting narrative in a way. But you still want to know what is happening and how you can influence the system.

This isn't a short-term game... keep plugging away and you'll make progress... sometimes you'll go backwards and others you'll leap forward... Don't give up... be bold and fight for everything!

I quickly got scanned and hostile with feds, so went to empire space. Got scanned and went hostile with them too. Now alliance are the only ones who will accept me lol.
