Shield Cells OP

Its like healing potion in any mmorpg.
Anaconda was always a challange fighting against until i put two shield cell modules to my ship 16 instant full shield. Now combat feels cheap. No risk. Just press few times on shield cell hotkey and youre fine. I find myself that i dont care then i get hit. I just aim at power plant and wait for anaconda go BOOM. Before that every fight against anaconda was risky, now i can just farm them like 5 in a row until my shield cells are empty.

Shield cell hauler taking on anaconda

It needs at least some kind of cooldown. Or make it generate heat in your ship (shield generator overworked? or something),or take energy from system so it would require some tactic as you cant spam then everytime. It breaks PvE.

After reading this, I can only think about a player with an Anaconda and a Shield Cell Bank A rank ! This will be hell to destroy him >< !

Shield Cell Banks are too powerful for now ! It's for an emergency action, and I think FD need to add at least a 40sec cooldown like when you are interdicted !

I think the module should just be removed from the game, at least then having a good shield rating and a good power distributor actually matters to keep your shield up. Shield cell banks are silly. They trivialize every fight, and in PvP the person that has the most wins.

Imagine PVP. all it matters which has more shield cells...
It needs at least some kind of long cooldown.

I'd say it's still skill-based. Shield cells are important to winning, but so are good weapons. So are good shields.

In PvP the person that has the most wins.

This is not my experience. In my experience the better pilot usually wins, whether they have more shield cells or no.

I think this is one of the modules that removes more from the game than it adds.
What if we would replace shield cells with something that instead refills the SYS bar or something? That would be useful for more things, but not as necessary as a shield cell bank.

That's a given, obviously. But a better pilot with no shield cells vs. one with would probably still lose, if the ships and other equipment are equal. I think it's a silly module.

All things being equal though, two (or more) banks of shield cells does give you a *substantial* advantage. I can't decide whether I'm for or against limiting ships to one bank of cells, since I often pack multiple banks for long NPC bounty hunting trips.

Shield Cells have been tested and balanced with the combat system for months.

They're part of the strategic nature of ED combat. There are all sorts of counters to attacks in combat, chaff disables tracking of gimbled weapons, ECM counters missiles, heat sinks make you disappear from radar, point defense shoots down missiles, and shield cells allow combat to last more than 20 seconds.

In a game where you can lose millions from combat, you need means of survival and strategy.

Not every pilot will want to prolong the encounter - the shield cell is a defensive module and can be used to assist the pilot when they wish to flee.

Would you go into combat without guns? Don't go into combat unprepared. Everyone needs guns, some sort of counter measures, shields cells, warrant scanner for bounty hunting... Use what you need to.

But if two good pilots meets one with shield cell bank, other without? And even novice pilot can fly backward shooting with gimbaled weapons and ignore damage spamming shield cell banks.

Its strange that module so OP wasnt changed at alfa/beta/gamma.
well said that it removes more from game than adds.

So the consensus is that every ship should just have a shield cell bank built into it. Why even make it a module? You *need* it if you want to survive. It's a silly module, like I said.

You need it you want to survive combat. I don't use one on my trading ship.

The fact that it is a module allows players the choice as to whether to fit one or not - they may not want to waste a module slot on shield cells, for example. It also introduces another element to the compromise that players will have to make when outfitting their ship between overall weight / cargo capacity / shields / scanners / interdiction devices / fuel scoop / refinery / etc..
