Newcomer / Intro Tobacco?

Hi all,

I'm a bit bemused when it comes to tobacco.
I know its deemed illegal in some/most systems, but when trade routes on the galaxy map says its trades and the commodity markets says its exported to a certain system it just doesnt show it when i arrive at those systems.
I've tried at 3 different stations in this way and none show tobacco in its commodity market.

Is there another way to determine whether it will sell, or is it a bug within the game?

I might be completly wrong, not having done much trading yet, but if Tobacco is illegal in most places, then you might need to be looking for Black Market trading, rather than the normal Commodity trading? I don't actually know, so that is a total guess.

May have to try and find out soon!

I've seen some strange things also with trading lately...

i.e. I pickup a mission to go from System B to System C so I check from the galaxy map the items System C is importing.....and buy them at System B....

However, when I get to System C, they are either not working with that product or I'm selling at a complete loss.....So I think the trading is a little (not buggy) but needs some work....

And Tobacco got me into trouble also

Where did you obtain thus said tobacco? Floating around freely in space? From the hold of a ship? Or did you actually purchase it from a station?

If you obtained it floating around or took it from the hold of a ship, you'll need to sell it at a black market as it's considered stolen (you can see the status of cargo in the right UI). A lot, but not all, stations have black markets. But beware - if you get scanned regardless of whether tobacco is legal or not in the system, you'll incur a fine (because it's stolen).

If you purchased it legally from a station and the trade map is showing a system imports it, check the system view of that system and hover over the stations. You'll see what stations import/export and the legality of certain commodities there.

Tobbaco is exported by Agricultural economies (not all of them obviously; depending on among other things, government type - corporate govenments prohibit Tobacco for instance). I would go to the galaxy map, filter for Agricultural economies and for Tobacco, pick one in your neighborhood and buy the trade data (only 100 cr). If it sells it, colorful shiny lines will appear!

Also, trade used to be a bit buggy, in that a certain good would not be in stock at the export location, but at the import location instead.

Tobacco seems easiest to come by in the systems in and around Lave. Fly there and check out the various ports. Quite a few sell it. I think its because they tend to be independent souls.

In other locations I have seen exactly the same issue you mention. Supplies of Tobacco coming out on Galaxy map. But when you visit, nada. It IS a pain.
