Down sampling GTX 980 4k in DK2

Hi
I have one GTX 980 and after having tried 4k downsampling I am interested in what it would take to achieve 75fps in 4k DSR.
Anyone any experience in running 980 SLI?
Thanks
Al

Although SlackR seems to be okay with SLI, the official line from Oculus, as far as I'm aware, is that SLI contributes to latency and produces a sub-par experience. I too, fully intend to buy a second 980 when nvidia/Oculus say "it's ready" - at this stage I'll take their word for it - they're the experts! :)

We keep hearing this said but nobody with SLI is experiencing extra latency... unless it is so slight the we are not noticing. I've tested rigs back to back, one with SLI and one with a single 970 and could see absolutely no difference once the settings were adjusted. Are you sure this report from Oculus was not before the VR settings update from nvidia (the frame latency thing where it sends less frames to the cpu)?

I've seen nothing from nvidia, or Oculus to indicate that VR SLI is implemented yet... I may well have missed it, I admit, but I'd have expected it to have made a little bit of news in VR land! ;)

I am hoping there are more optimisations to come, however I know of a lot of people having joy with SLI. less so with Crossfire (though personally not used either).

maybe hang fire a few months, these may help. Even with those tho, if you want 4K VR, its a few years off on a single card solution and proper top end even with multiple cards imo....

No latency when I set to x3 DSR, but even this rig still can't handle x4!

We're still waiting for the cool VR Nvidia thing where each card produces it's own render but they did give us that "Virtual Reality pre-rendered frames" to keep the frame going to the CPU to a minimum. Maybe there was more of an issue with SLI before that was implemented. Maybe each card was sending a number of frames to the cpu rather than the gpu which would certainly cause latency. I'm just guessing though but I know for sure that SLI is not introducing anything extra on my machines. It's noticeably smoother with SLI running.

The lag already in place makes it unnoticeable, but once everything is running fully optimized through direct mode the difference will be large. Basically it's all about breaking through the "presence" barrier. Since we haven't really crossed that threshold yet, we don't mind the little bit of extra latency.

I have a similar setup and am really wanting to run in 4k DSR but I'm getting 75ish in most of the DSR options dropping to 60ish in some areas. What can be done to get no latency 4k
Might just order another 980 and trade it in when something better comes out next year
