Rares no longer being stocked????

Not really a nerf, more like a re-alignment

Yes you can make a lot of money per ton, but now you can't buy a whole ship load.

If the personal allocation is 8 tons that is all you get, so no point hanging round for hours trying to fill up.

it is still possible to make ~17K profit per ton on Lavian brandy.
Then how come they didn't adjust the profit per ton or the distance needed to make peak profits? Both of those would have been better choices than basically restricting how people play their game with limited stocks of varying degrees.

Tried to reply but the filter decided I used a 'bad word'™ somewhere, told me to edit my message, but unfortunately it wiped the whole reply. Great system. Just put some ***** in if you don't like a word then we can work out what word it was.

Basically - stop patching the game and leave us with the game we BOUGHT, not the one that some whiners want which causes idiotic devs to nerf things.

1984 was way better - you got to play the game you purchased.

I don't mind fixes that stop game crashes, I object to 'fixes' that just mess the game up and stop people having fun the way they intended to when they paid their money.

If it ain't broke STOP FIXING IT!

I would have thought it was better this way, it makes them 'rare' in quantity but still worth travelling a significant distance to sell them

There seems to be a big nerf all around. Even cargo hauling missions got gimped. I have 32 tons of cargo room and Every station I check only has missions for under 10 tons and usually worthless items like scrap. None paying more than 5K per delivery. The only way to make money on the bulletin board is to try to find Rebel Transmissions and Prototype Tech now. Which can be hit or miss.

Thanks to tips on the forums, I learned about rares yesterday. So I grabbed 1 ton port x, traveled to another rare port, grabbed 10 of another item, then traveled over 190ly to another location. Total profit came to around 60k. That's not much of an incentive to trade rare goods imo. If I'm doing something wrong, please enlighten me.

It just seems that FD is trying to nerf any profitable trade methods.

Maybe because a very small margin of players can do those big space leaps ?

I don't agree with the limitation, it is as a strange option as the profit per ton or longer distances trades would be.

Would be better to disperse the rares into named goods and scatter them through different systems, in according amounts, similar to the rest of the goods regarding demand and offer, and keeping their value.

They did just nerf the rares again and why not - they are to be rares!!
Well, as has been repeated elsewhere, they're already rare by being available in only one place in all of human-occupied space. No need to apply both definitions of rare to them. Maybe you'd rather they be called 'specialty goods'? They are that given world/station's specialty, after all.

Kind of sad considering I liked the rest of your post.

They're basically doing a bunch of reactionary design after a way to early launch... yay!

As already said, they're rare in sources; there's no need to make them rare in quantity, as well. I'd be happy to see them lower the profit per ton or increase the travel required for the better profits instead of constantly nerfing supply.

If it stops the ridiculous practice of buy 10, wait 15 minutes, refresh and buy 10 more, I'm all for it. Play the game, don't exploit it. You're not supposed to "finish" the game in 4 days.

So waiting in a station for some goods to appear is an exploit? I wait in the station for the BB to refresh, am I exploiting?

The maximum I heard people making from rares *before* the nerf was 6m an hour. Please tell me how you can afford an Anaconda in 4 days making 6m an hour... unless you play 7 hours a day and do nothing but trade rares, and have no accidents. Then you get an Anaconda. Stock. And you can't even afford the wear and tear unless you keep grinding rares.

Besides, as others have pointing out, there is no "end" to this game. Having a Conda just means you have the best ship, big deal.

FD, how do you expect people to progress in this game if there aren't ways of making money that will support the larger ships? I know some people are in Pythons and even Condas already, but they either got that money through grinding rares before it was nerfed, or grinding trade runs, with the emphasis on grinding (and that's some serious grinding). I've done trade runs before, making maybe 1m an hour, but it was tedious as hell. I didn't back this game to end up practising docking and undocking.

It seems FD are in danger of falling into the trap many MMOs have of not having any end-game content - in this case, there's no content that allows the player to afford the larger ships.

I just don't get it. I really don't.

I started in Beta and used missions at first to make money, but once i bought a hauler there wasn't much profit in it all, so spent a lot of time struggling to make any money. I finally found 2 good regular goods routes after a week and started making some money, then Gamma 2.05 came and totally nerfed the trade system, so no more money to be made trading regular goods.

After release i could see that trading is on the way back, but doesn't even make enough money to upgrade my ship, so i switched to rares, waiting in the station to fill my hold, even if it took 6-8 hours. I now have a type 6, fully upgraded, so i am no pauper in the game, but now they nerf the rares completely, so how will i ever get a better ship, when a type 9 costs 76 million!!

I mean, do they really want us to grind like it's a job to get the ship we want? I am no good at combat and wanted to trade, but it doesn't seem like Frontier want me as a player in this game!!

I also don't feel its a limitation, more a challange. Till now it was like vistis A, wait there until full chargo then head 160ly in on direction to B, sell, wait there unitl full cargo and warp back to A and this over and over again. Good money, but really broing after a while.

With the limitation now, the profit is gone just doing A-B-A... You'll get the same profit trading normal commoditis localy at higher volumes. Its now up to us to look for trade routes on rares, buy low, head to the next one, stock up again and sell when you reached a destination where the price is high enough. There is now more planing involved, trying to fill your stock and manage the stock to get the highest return rate.

Not as easy as before, not as boring as befory, but hopefully worth the profit.

Your journey is almost identical to what I'm experiencing. FD is making it up as the game goes along. If this doesn't improve FD will run off the majority of gamers, and only a few ED purists will remain. Perhaps the time required to be successful at this game is far more than most of us with a life can invest.

So you seriously believe it is worth travelling 180LY+ to sell 8 items? Seriously? The fuel costs alone would take the profit from a couple of the items, so you are travelling all that way for 90k.

Rares should be rare and pop up randomly in different places at different times, if you are guaranteed to get Peruvian Whiskey in Peru, it is no longer rare is it.

I think rares were meant to be that, RARE. Pick one up or two and you travel the universe as a bonus trade item. I don't think it was too be a FOTM item to milk until they changed it.
