100 ton cargo hold. 100 tons of super conductors. sold = 100,000 cr profit. Whats the problem?

People who post these things know not to reveal "where" because that 1,000 per ton profit will be 300 per ton profit in a couple of hours.

Good for you for finding one... Now reveal it and watch what happens and why so few people can find a decent trade route :)

Warning, :words:.

I started out in Gamma running mission for faction rep, it was easy money (and good money at that point) but I realised it was only a start. There was lots of space to explore and I had to get out there, so I saved up for a Cobra and then pointed my new ship in a random direction. Eventually, I came across a system with a Pristine belt, so I thought, why not try some mining? My Cobra was still stock, so I fitted a mining laser and refinery and hoped that shooting rocks wasn't like it was in Eve.

Well, it was a bit more involved, but it wasn't exactly exciting. I made enough to fully upgrade my Cobra, but then decided it was time to find something else for a while. Elite's a trading game, right? So I load up Slopey's BPC and try and find some good trading routes. After a few trades, I realise I need a bigger ship, so I buy an Asp and fit it with all cargo holds. The money starts coming in, but after a few dents and bumps I realise the expense of repairing this ship isn't worth the extra cargo space, so I re-fit a shield and grind more trade runs. It's good money - I found a route giving me 2460cr/ton profit so if I just grinded for a bit I could upgrade my Asp. Station to station, dock, load up, undock, hyperspace, dock, sell, load up, undock.... I can handle this for a while, but it's soul-destroying, and not what I remember "space trading" being like from back in '84.

I'm starting to wonder how to make enough to afford a bigger ship, or even just enough to afford the repair bill if I do a bit of combat. I've heard about rare trading but it seems a bit complicated, but nothing's for free, right? So I do a bit of research and decide to do a round-trip of Fed stations to test the water. I load up with some rares and head off across the Galaxy. This is exciting! I'm out of my comfort zone, no Friendly ships around, loads of new systems to explore as I make my way to the next stop. Sure, I'm not making as much money taking the scenic route like this, but damn is it fun! This is what I remember from those late night huddled over my BBC B. A purpose, not just a grind.

So then the nerfbat hits. Now I have to wait for the stock to refresh at each port. After an initial outcry, I realise this isn't so bad. Now I can run some missions while I wait, make some new friends in each port I visit, and as long as I don't take too many risks I can fly around with a hold half-full of rare goods (I can't buy a separate ship to do combat in because you can't store a ship with cargo...). It's not so bad though, I'm making less money - much less than I was making trading even, but I don't care so much, there are still systems to explore and new friends to make.

And now this. Rare trading is now literally pointless, unless you're a new player in a small ship, and even then it's just a stepping stone to a larger ship, which you then won't be able to afford to run. I've championed this game, defended it from the trolls, been called a fanboy, but now I'm starting to wonder what direction the devs are taking. Getting a bigger ship (and being able to afford upgrades and repairs) is a goal most players aspire to, yet that goal is being moved further and further away. I'm sorry to say, but this may be a turning point for me, when I start to lose hope that this game will actually be a keeper.

FD, I'd love to hear some reasoning from you behind the changes to rare trading. So far, there's been no word at all. In Gamma, the changes you made went from one extreme to another, but now they just seem to be heading progressively south.

You've basically said everything I wanted to say

The game is heading south fast with a lack of content and the nerfbats for progression

If they can't fix the game to make it more enjoyable than just a grindfestation
i'll go south towards star citizen.

Deja vu... I was expecting this to happen, especially after seeing how FD handled economy simulation the second time. I did not expected it to happen after two days of release. If they keep at it at the same pace, FD might end up getting into Word Genuineness book.

Any word on when the vanishing dock bug might get fixed? It's not funny any more. Entering a coriolis after they tell you dock 35 and all the docks are unlit until some random event happens has lost its charm.

As a temporary workaround, use the radar to find the landing pad - once you have docking pad number, the radar switches from the station to the landing pad. Handy inside the space stations.
I still would appreciate a marker appearing on the outside of the little 3D model for the platforms as I chase around those forever trying to find the right pad!

I don't agree. I can make 500k per run in my cobra in about 45 mins. I made enough in one game session to buy a ASP. Without one fight or interdiction. Which is fine. But, other activities in the game do not pay as well. So if rare trading will be this lucrative, then every other profession needs a huge buff. Or they nerf that one trade item and make small buffs to everything else. Which is what it seems like they are doing.

As much as I am disappointed with the nerf I have to agree with Slick. I had a semi good Cobra, in one day it had A4 all round and I traded it in for an Asp. this was with a 32 ton cargo hold, pushing it i was making 1 mil every 75 minutes, approximately.

Only bought the Asp last night and after a couple of hours already have an A5 FSD, went to bed last night thinking 2 days and it will be A5 all round then what, just upgrade to a python and so on and so forth...It was too easy to be honest. in a week, I would have had a fully outfitted python.

I love the Asp, but now, instead of trading rares for a day and having the best available module in a couple of hours I've gotta think about it, instead of the A power plant costing 5.6 mil, i'm now looking at the B class modules for a quarter of the price with the credits I have... sucks a little but I suppose this chancer will have to diversify a little and be stuck with around 400k an hour (little route i've found just trading normally).

The radar only changes over to landing when you're over the pad. The lights and number disappear long before you get to that point.

This... I was really enjoying building rep in an area while slowly filling the hold with rare goods for a long run. Also made things a bit more dangerous/exciting when you'd a hold full of rare goods and the mission involved combat. No point going 120ly for a couple of tons really... :(

Same. It seemed fine to me the way it was. Why monkey with something that's working and people are having fun playing? Sigh, not a happy boy anymore.

.. and just go booted because of a transaction server connection error, after traveling 15 minutes in supercruise, arriving at the station, now I'm back at the ingress star. Awesome.

At least you can get back in - I just had the transaction error and now after I hit Start I am stuck on Loading Game for at least 5 mins now - given that it normally takes a second or two I think it's probably safe to say something is badly wrong.

I would appreciate any reply from FD about what may be happening that doesn't include the phrase "clear your save"

Anyone else hanging at present? I was handing over cqrgo at the completion of a mission and got stuck at the "stand by" stage. When I shut down E : D and reloaded I am stuck at game loading.

Seems that everybody wants anacondas, phytons and everything bigger for having some interest in the game.

I would say let them all achieve it , and even more, sooner is better, that way once they get bored of everything (like many rich people in the real life) the rest of us can enjoy the game.

Many stressed people i think, ED is for playing relaxed, take some cup of coffee (or tea if you are british) and spend some hours seeing the wonders of space, making friends, discovering new trading routes and get involved in some important events, and some day, maybe some day you will be able have your own luxury ship, that's the way i see it.

I think Frontier needs to put a lot more ships in the middle range of price and capabilities for making people not to look so high from the beginning.

At this point y would be happy just if the bugs we have been reporting weeks after weeks have been solved... But (those damn comms!)

A few of my friends have been quizing me on if to buy ED for some fun over Christmas. I really cannot recommend it to them, at this rate I would never hear the last of it.
