so let me get this right, everything that is fun is being nerfed? there is not alot of activities in this game as it is and now im starting to think this game was not worth half what i paid

And I can make 750K from mining in 40 minutes. What's your point?

Does that cargo acually add to 750k? and how many different systems and stations do you have to visit to sell it all?

Rare (adj) not found in large numbers and consequently of interest or value.

What about the term "rare" doesn't make sense to some people?

It certainly shouldn't mean "I can fill my ship with it every time I go back and forth to the same station."

Diamonds are rare, because they aren't found everywhere. But in places where they can be found, there can be found quite some amount of it. Same with Gold, Platinum, Copper, "rare earths" minerals (of which China is the biggest exporter/miner).

That's not what we did either. It took HOURS to fill up your hold.

Maybe now people can focus their attention/feedback on proper trading and getting that fixed.

This.

Unless they fix normal trading, and I mean make it MUCH more lucrative than it currently is, then I'm done with E:D for now. The only way I can see me getting any fun out of this game currently is by selling my brand new (mostly unmodded) Asp and sticking with small ships and doing bounty hunting. It's the only fun thing left to do at the moment, since progression is out the window. I'm not prepared to grind hundreds upon hundreds of hours to and from the same stations for 500k or so per hour. I did this for a while and it was about as much fun as popping my own eyeballs out with a large spoon. Some of my worst real life jobs were actually more fun!

Thats ok until you factor in the nerfing of trading which means i cannot do that even with straight trading. The inaccuracy of the in game trading tools and the fact that if you follow them you 9 times out of 10 make a loss.

hes full of it, hes not making that much that fast and also i been farming in pristine belts it takes alot of time and the trade is galactic value if not close to it

The article on this unknown third rate game blog is well old... DATED November 15, 2012 - 11:54 am. Why are people posting outdated blogs.!!!

I think considering recent changes, i don't think its going to become MUCH more lucrative. There are things that need fixing, but its clear they don't want people making silly money quickly. So I guess we won't be seeing you in game for a while, or perhaps ever, unless they decide to meet your demands.

Came home, started the upgrade to 1.02 and same issue i had for 1.01 - data.ovx failed to validate and upgrade failed - ticketed
last patch (1.01) they sent me fixed data.ovx which solved the issue
i hope this will not continue with every patch...

If people are bailing 2 days after release on a FREE to play game (they paid for the software but it's free to play) something is wrong, wronger, wrongest! So far Mining was nerfed after the big "exploit," was closed, Trading is a grind and you better have another app to keep track or you're going to lose big money, Bounty hunting is for Cobra III's or smaller, Piracy is pretty much the same as bounty hunting. Exploration won't pay out any more either so should the name be changed to Elite: Grindfest?

Rares vs regular trading: there is a lot more danger and unpredictability in doing dozens of trade runs in an hour vs sitting in a dock slowly filling your hold for an hour, then making one long trip, to it doesn't matter where for guaranteed profit. They wanted rares to be a rare thing (hur hur see wat I did thar) so no use complaining that it has been "fixed", though honestly I still expect to see further iterations. Good for sidewinders to get them out of starting systems, bad for Lakons: good for the game.

Explorers have never earned big bucks, just big names. Some of our most famous explorers died penniless or in pursuit of new lands. What I mean is, what explorers are in it for the money? CMDR Zulu Romeo didn't earn mega millions, but he earned a name. I hope to see more development and fleshing out of exploration and the general way we access and interact with. The galaxy, and I'm willing to be patient while they make improvements.

Bounty hunting is better than ever I keep hearing, but big powerful ships are cost prohibitive to take into furballs routinely for a *comparatively* meager payout. Maybe that is intended? Perhaps Anacondas shouldn't be circling resource extraction sites looking for cobras to pop. "It's a young mans game" is an expression I hear from time to time, which means that once you reach a certain point, something that you used to do isn't FOR you anymore. I read about 750,000 credit faction missions today. That seems like a better use of your time.

Trading is MY game, so I can speak with more authority here. It's not a grind to all of us, it's why we play! I don't always use Slopeys tool, in fact I've not used it much lately because it has been less than accurate and missing parts of the galaxy where I hang my hat. So instead, I "rent" a sidewinder, fly around my sphere of influence checking prices and developing trade routes (not great success, but I've only been so mobile and have settled for lesser profits) and then doing the real work in my Lakon. Sure doesn't feel like a grind to me, if it does to you I suggest you explore other avenues.

Mining, I honestly can't believe you seem to be complaining that they fixed what was widely acknowledged as an exploit. Once you found a palladium 'roid, you could just fill your hull with the stuff until you were bored. There was no need to go anywhere else ever. Mining needs adjustment, no doubt in my mind, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have fixed an issue they'd never intended.

Some people will buy this game, and even after pushing through the learning curve will not like it and quit. Those people will be angry about the money they spent on a game that wasn't what they thought it was, but they honestly can't be saved. An acceptable level of turnover is still ok for a healthy game.

The last couple patches have been of the "don't rock the boat" variety because they want a good impression during their game launch. Big features come with big bugs, and they don't want that right now. Expect big features in the coming months, but for now I encourage everyone unhappy with the mechanics of the game to be patient, to try different things if what they're doing doesn't work for them, and to try interacting with FD in a more reasoned manor. They're on here, they're addressing specifics, don't expect roadmap answers but if you have a question about how something currently works I bet they'll answer it if they have time.

As someone noted, thats from 2012. Nothing has been indicated on any sort of subscription model for a loooong time.

Well it seems to me to be honest that as players change to a new option the DEVS change or remove that option

Have you actually read the thread, I specifically pointed out that this ruined a way I had found to play the game that made it amazing fun for me. You could ofcourse also just assume other people's intent and then attack that. I think straw man might be a useful term here.

I do understand that, I just think the reaction is a little exaggerated, to say the least. The profession in question is 'trading', not 'trading rare commodities only'. Balancing is an ongoing process, and you all should calm a bit. Saying trading this only commodity was your whole point in playing this game, then I'm not sure if this genre is for you. There's a simulation going on, the rares are only a small part of it.

My 2 cents, i don't go running to the president when i miss an awesome deal, rares are rare, take the respawn down to an hour or so. If I have an allotment for rares, bring in a permit for rares dealers. :D

There was a lot more danger and unpredictability doing missions to gain rep then adding a couple of tons of rares when back at base than flying back and forward between the same few stations with the same cargo. The 160ly trip to sell when I'd enough in the hold was also good fun. I'm glad you're enjoying playing the game your way, how do you feel that I can't play the game the way I was enjoying playing it anymore?

The rares have been a bit overnerfed if you ask me. I need to go to 2 places to get my 16t Cobra MKIII filled. 10t as a limit is just too low. Maybe the distance should be tweaked or it should used a logarithmic scale. I can understand that FD wants to stop bulk traders doing rare commodities trade runs. But bulk trading should be rewarded in other ways. As in 10 units you get a discount 100 units even more discount and normal trading has to be fixed as well.

What I'm really waiting for atm is a fix for the reputation system.
Also a 170,000 reward for hunting down a Elite Anaconda is not worth the effort tbh. Missions and other things should be buffed to make the game interesting. People all got into rare trading because it was the only thing that was actually paying off.
Aside from doing less boring A-B-A-B kind of dull trade routes. It gave incentive to explore the universe.

I was also thinking if they do get round to fixing the reputation system the higher the rep the more rewarding missions show up.

So, somehow they must have missed all the times people have asked for something that resembles an explanation of the standing mechanics, the crime / bounty mechanics, the event system mechanics etc? I mean, I disagree on an abstract level that some parts of the game should only be for people in small ships (i.e. bounty hunting, warzones etc.) but that is like.. up for debate. FD's lack of transparency and ability to communicate with the community is not. Are you seriously positing that they're totally willing to answer questions about mechanics and such, mayhaps even reasoning behind said implementations? because if that is your experience I would adore you if you could get an explanation of said mechanics out of FD :) and perhaps some semblance of reasoning behind the rare trade adjustments in 1.02. Not your reasons for thinking it is a good fix, but FD's gameplay reasoning :)

There's no possible way you could make 1 million in an hour. This is false.

It would take 45 minutes of travel time (ignoring anything on the way, no refueling, no interdictions), and for an Asp with 100t cargo, about 15 "ticks" to fully stock up. Each tick = 10 minutes = 2 hours.

You should check your numbers again. its takes this guy 30 mins to make 600k with a 42 tonne hold. Multiple that by 2 its 1.2 mill in one hour multiple the cargo hold by 2 and its 84 which is 2.4 mill in one hour. This is what you want in game?
