Patch file size please?

Early days yet, and the patches that have been released have been small files, but moving forward it would be useful to see how big the patch is before applying, ideally in the client launcher where it tells you there's an update. Not a problem if you've fast broadband maybe, but for those people out in the wilds with 2 meg connections, if it's a big patch then we need to leave the update until everyone's finished on the internet, usually last thing before bed, and leave it running overnight. Can that be added please? Fast broadband is on it's way here, but not until the new year, and even then it would be useful to know beforehand. Cheers.

seems like you forgot to mention, that some rare commodieties (or at least 1) was moved around the galaxy as well?

i went to a planet (1 or 2 days ago) cause of a system news about some onion heads should be illigal and stuff and i found them there, until your recent update. i could buy 4 more and then i realized the market isn`t selling this good anymore and in the description it tells me a system that is 198ly away as origin of the commodity now?

am i experiencing some bug here or do you plan to move rare commodities around so it becomes pure luck to find them?

There seems to be an issue with the AI trading in that in some circumstances it's over trading leading to producer economies becoming consumers for the same good, this has the knock on affect of reducing profit margins.

Michael

wow - thanks for the quick response! I really do believe future patch notes need to be more detailed and considered - perhaps with a section on key bugs/issues being worked on as well.

There is also an issue where people get stuck in the system they are in because of a 'Transaction Server Error' on jumping. This means the game is bricked for us at the moment.
Do you think you guys could have a look at that, preferable before you go on your xmas break?

It has been reported many times, with zero dev response.

And what is wrong with that in a sandbox game? If this game had an offline mode I wouldn't make slightest bit of difference to anyone how I played it. I would be having fun, FDev would have sold a game to me at a profit to them and everyone would be happy... regardless of how I played the game. I wasn't initially bothered when it was announced we would have to be online at all times but now I am seeing how that is coming back to bite us all in the asp. I cannot just install the game and play it in a way that is fun to me, I have to play it the way FDev insist and I have to justify my actions to players who think I should play differently because that is how they want to play.

Unfortunately, I am starting to feel this way as well :(

If everyone knows where to find them they clearly soon become not so rare :) Although I don't think that's intention, most likely they were moved for 1.0 and that's it.

An issue related to a time out was fixed in this update. If you're still having an issue then raise a ticket and we'll take a look.

JUST A GUESS but I bet they're spacing them apart to discourage sell rare A to rare B station, sell rare B to rare A station, repeat.

They agreed they don't want us to make money fast.

WOW. Is that realistic? A whole galaxy and economics are settled. There are no major profits being made by anyone.

That is realistic. NOT. There are back door deals and profits being made all over this planet. Uhhh hellloooo Wall Street anyone? All sorts of opportunity for profit, even though some of them are scams.

Those loopholes should exist in this game too. If you keep squashing every profitable venture - what the hell is left to play the game? Why bother if you can't succeed? They keep nerfing success so nobody can profit.

Like mining... I spent 2 hours last night mining barely made 100k and I'm a quick miner.

Do they really want us to take 1 game year of repetition and time wasting to make enough money for our upgrades? Its like they WANT us to grind for little reward . Its almost like slavery but the slaves can leave. Why would someone toil over a game with no reward or ability to get a "big score" ?

I've yet to encounter a 'Transaction Server Error' as yet... so hopefully it'll remain that way. Before the update, it was every 4 or 5 jumps. So fingers crossed. :)

I'll ticket otherwise; thankyou.

Has me wondering whether we should be taking those doyty traders down to stop them over trading the markets?

Rare commodities, now that's a funny thing

Imsure there are thousands of opinions on this thread and here's mine too :)

For Rares to work they have to be relevant and useful to players, meaning it has to be worth the time expended on them, but without busting the game or being non-sensical

the attraction of Rares of course is the big profit margin, the problem with Rares is the supply model, previously a massive supply out of step with their rare status, now an illogical supply based on limiting what a player can hoard

RAres should be that, rare, meaning their supply is unstable and unpredictable, not following a pattern of re supply. That could mean a supply appears in ten minutes, then next in an hour, then in one minute then a day later and that supply could be 1 ton then 10 tons, rarely it could 25 tons but always unpredictable

that way we are left with a chance or hope of a big suprise when we land at a Rares station but the game isn't broken for it

Indeed, although there is an issue with the QAI trading that's making the system harder to read than it should be. We're currently looking into this.

Michael

So, you're basically saying 'yes, you should go ahead and quit the game because it's not going to get any better', or am I reading this wrong? You actually want us to stay in the smaller ships that we can currently afford and maintain.

Why do we have these incredibly expensive ships and mods in the game, if there's no way of progressing to them in an acceptable time-frame? Are they only for the hardcore/elite? The rest of us are supposed to stay in Vipers/Cobras etc?

When I suggest that standard trading needs to be MUCH more lucrative, I'm suggesting that you need to close the gap on this (and bounty hunting/exploring etc) vs how good rares were.

Just look at all the complaints here, they're not specifically BECAUSE of the the actual knee-jerk destruction of this trade, but because you've taken away the only semi-decent option to make money that doesn't involve grinding our souls away for thousands of hours for a chance at the bigger ships. Even then, I doubt most of us could even maintain these ships when fully kitted with the best mods etc as things currently are.

So again I ask, are these higher end ships only for the hardcore/elite people? If so, then yes, you're probably correct - I should quit.

I disagree that it needs to be a lot more lucrative, there are some issues that need to be addressed but playing as a trader is currently viable. I play as a trader myself with a bit of exploration thrown in. Once the background sim is working as it should be we'll review the balance if needed.

And as always, the keypoint of the question was avoided and not answered.

Michael,

Me and many others agree on the original rare goods being imbalanced. Filling up an Anaconda with 240t of rare goods, yielding a potential profit of almost 20K credits per ton, at one single station every ten minutes was just not right.

But for many people, including me, rare goods trading was the ONLY reason to ever travel the galaxy. The pre-patch-1.2 situation was that it took quite some time to fill up a ship's hold (even a medium sized ship like my Cobra) and many ppl spent that waiting time doing missions and short range trading in the systems around the source of rare-goods.

In the current situation we can't even fill up a hauler with rare goods, no matter how long we wait or do missions or do short range trading. There is absolutely NO incentive to fly far in any other role than pure exploring. Also, unless you're gonna stick to a small trade route with maybe 10 systems max (and that's only manageable with help of third party trade tools!) there is NO way buying a large ship is viable. Noone's gonna haul 100+ tonnes of tea (or insert any other commodity that's readily available) across any distance larger than necessary (ever seen the cost to refuel a large ship?)

Could you PLEASE elaborate on what role rare goods are supposed to play according to FD? Is this really working as intended?

I have tested a Python taking different missions, playing about 2-4 hours per day. I had no problems making 6-7M Cr of pure profit taking into account that my ship was in top condition, all maintenance repairs were performed when required.
