Newcomer / Intro Seriously?!?! No Abandon mission confirmation?!?

I am now facing an 11,000 CR fine for abandoning a mission that I didn't intend to, and no confirmation popped up. This is crazy. I would think with this long in testing, someone would have made the observation that there needs to be a confirmation dialog when abandoning a mission. I would even argue it needs to have it's own separate section. I know it's probably just a drop in the bucket for experienced players, but I am 500 shy of even paying the fine, let alone buying anything new. Talk about a motivation killer.:(

Oh well, it was asked for many times, but you know, lots of people replied to that "No hand holding in Elite Dangerous !!1!"

Yes, it is quite unnecessary. Would be a nice change to have a confirmation for that.

Might want to submit a ticket or post about it in the features subforum, since this is the kind of polish thing that Frontier has been pretty good about adding quickly.

Lessons learned in this game can be kind of harsh, but I'd argue they're learned faster and remembered better as a result. You're certainly going to be a lot more careful on that screen, right? ;) At the risk of being harsh myself, 11k's kind of a drop in the bucket for any player, new or experienced - even in a stock Sidey, it can be made in less than 20 mins by doing delivery missions. Usually they're 2 - 4k payout, many require less than 4 units for cargo, and if you drop your discovery scanner and put in an extra cargo module, you'll see even more of these BB missions pop up. Yes, definitely a temporary buzzkill, but it's peanuts compared to the losses you WILL experience at some point later on in the game.

That said, a confirmation for abandonment is not in any way a bad idea, just something they have yet to implement due either to lack of requests (possible) or lack of time (much more likely). Enter a ticket requesting the feature, and post in the ongoing development forum here as well, and hopefully it'll be added soon!

I hate confirmations, they are annoying. Too much clicking. Read the text on the buttons.

You can even click the wrong option on a confirmation screen.

+1. Confirmation with 'back' or 'decline' pre-selected would be nice.

OP, you are FAR from alone. Many of us have done this, including me. Fortunately it was late enough in my progression that I could afford to dump the now-stolen cargo in deep space before the cops got around to scanning me, then dock at an outpost of the same jurisdiction where there weren't any cops and pay it off. It was also fortunate that the rep system wasn't live at the time. Getting fines really chomps on your rep and it takes forever to rebuild.

Ummm......Where do you look to see a list of your current missions, please?

I've been playing since launch and haven't seen that yet.

I am of course going to be more careful, but I shouldn't have to feel like I'm stepping on thin ice every time I check my mission screen. That does not equal fun for me. It's not a large order to provide the player with some small measure of warning or confirmation especially concerning such a drastic action as abandoning a mission. Speaking of which, this ticket to submit that you speak of, where do I find it? Is it in game?

I guess I'm just thankful it wasn't a lot more important than it was. So that cargo I have is now stolen? Lovely, just lovely. I haven't logged in since, I quit out of frustration when it happened.

Yup. If you thought the fine for dumping the mission was bad, just wait until the fuzz scan you with it still in your hold. Worst possible case is if they do it while you're on approach to a station. The fuzz will aggro and so will the station. You are unlikely to make it out of range of the stations guns in one piece, they throw a LOT of hurt.
