Newcomer / Intro Hauler - Equipment Question

I've upgraded from a Sidewinder to a Hauler. I was hoping the Hauler would have more "internal" slots. I want to have all the basic equipment loaded but also a docking computer. For now, I've had to sell my Discovery Scanner and swap it for the Docking Computer. Is there anyway I can have both, without swapping out more stuff?

Additionally is it like that for all ships, like an Adder, which could be my next purchase? Or will an Adder, for example, let me have the basic standard equipment as well as the DC?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately to get the docking computer you have to sacrifice something. After a bit of practice docking is much quicker without a docking computer and as safe, so for me its not a sacrifice I'd make. You could substitute one of the cargo bays for a docking computer and upgrade the second bay, that should give the same cargo capacity as the stock hauler.

It perhaps is a bit strange that the docking computer isn't just a software update so I agree its a bit illogical.

I do want to keep the Docking Computer - basically I can then be AFK whilst I dock, which is important to me. I could indeed upgrade a cargo bay, etc.

Does an Adder offer more slots in Internal?

Practice docking, then get rid of that and your shields = 20 ton

I did this until I was able to afford a Type 6. The Hauler is cheap on the insurance.

I don't use a docking computer on my hauler.
Basically, get 2x 8 cargo unit containers and keep the shields. Or get rid of the shields as well for an additional 4 cargo.

Upgrade your jump drive as well, because you won't get very far fully loaded.

Docking computer is great, keep it. Don't listen to people telling you otherwise. It's really nice to be able to get a drink or do something else while docking. To answer your question:
When i had a hauler i put the DC where the scanner was. Since i was hauling almost always in the same systems i really didn't need it much.
Later with the cobra its easier to fit. At the moment i got a type 6 and the DC just costs me 2 tons of cargo, really nothing at all

I would not give up shields for more cargo... only if you are very good at piloting already. Shields give you more time in interdictions and some wiggle room when accidently hitting stuff.

<rant>For the record: The fact that the DC takes any place at all is ridicoulus. It's just a little piece of hardware... or even just a program, my onboard computer should be good enough to handle that.</rant>
