Great, some details, what ship did you use, perhaps just a cobra is not enough? (couldn't get it to spawn) . Where did you get it , USS , nav beacon ?
How tough a fight?

And whats next rank and have you received next progression mission (curious)?

It wasn't fixed, it was replaced by another NPC (Gen. Shikai) which apparently has a similar bug of not having a target type after accepting the mission... I'll test after bringing my son to school to see if it actually spawns.

After that you get a permit for an other system, where something more will happen (i dont want to spoil, so ... )...

The target is a USS... The next mission is a pirate hunt (5 targets) also USS.. You'll get another permit.. I'm currently at PLX 695. Chief Petty Officer.. I'll update in a bit if I am able to proceed.


EDIT: It seems I'm stuck at the moment.. As it's showing me a mission to accept the PLX 695 permit, which I already have (I'm in Dover station in PLX 695) and thus, the mission is unobtainable.

Same for me, think we need to get friendly first with major system faction before we get the mission.

in my experience this works near everytime, I ahve made over a million on these missions already....
Pick a system the transaction tab tells you is associated with your mission, jump to it, throttle down while in hyperspace, you will be at 30kms or SC version of stopped. Just spin around or point away from the sun and wait, a USS will pop up, it is usually always associated with a mission you have whether it be the assassination mission or an alternate for some cargo run you have or to switch you from killing traders to pirates. This should be a trader or three if it's associated with your assassination mission. They will be smalltalking and one will state where your target is now located. Go to that system and do the same thing, 30kms stopped and wait. If that's not the one keep going to USSs, you WILL find him.

Flying around looking for USSs just increases the chance of you finding non-quest USSs, you are MUCH better off just throttling right down and letting them appear right in front of you.

(And, yes, its a really bjorked quest methodology)

What uss are you looking for in Beta Hydri? The USS for the pirates? It's not in Beta Hydri.. It's in a system near by.. The mission will tell you which one's. ( I believe there are two of them)

And, Chief Petty Officer seems to be the limit at this time. The game apparently sees me having the permit to enter PLX 695.. But the BB doesn't see it... Thus it only gives me the "mission" to receive the permit. I'll ticket it later.. See what happens.

Ok, news: I went back to Aulin and got 2 new naval progression missions there (3 pirates here, 5 ppirates there). Will update progress here as soon as I am able to.

I'm stuck at Chief Petty Officer after acquiring the permit to PLX 695 too. Might need Allied with the Federation or the local faction to progress now, or might be just bugged.
