Is this displaying normal

Hello Everyone,
I've been playing ED beta for a bit and just got my hands on the DK2 for a few weeks. I've done a lot of research on getting the display the best it can be, but I don't know what "good" is. I love the immersion in the Oculus Rift but I'm also getting the jagged lines people often describe. These jagged lines move with head movement, and resemble a scan lines (yes I know it's my name but really : P ) dancing about and through the objects. Is this normal?

I'd include a photo sample but I'm a new user here.

I've tried many ways to resolve this from various AA settings to the oversampling technique. I can't get oversampling to work, as every time I "test" the new resolution, the screen on the oculus goes blank.

Anyway... Any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks so much and glad to be here.

no OR here so i can't help with that, but if you run into trouble with a post and need the title editing you can ask a mod to do it by using the report link on the bottom of the post.

I've already flagged the thread and asked for the le change for you on this one.

Have edited out the photo part, if you wish it changed later when you are ready, please PM one of the mods who will be glad to help (Thanks AndyB to for helpful advice to OP)

It sounds like it's a refresh rate issue. Is your main monitor 60hz? If it is, and you have the game (and display driver) set to vsync on, then turn it off and see if that helps.

Thanks. Main monitor is 60hz. I've turned off Vsync in the NVIDIA control panel. In ED the Vsync is red. When I change it to Vsync off nothing happens. and when I return to options Vsync is back on.

Any ideas? Thanks again.

Try setting your Rift to be the primary monitor, also try turning off the other monitor. If you don't get the rift locked at 75hz it will be bad. What I tell everyone is the best way to test out your problem is to go to the extreme. Turn off all other monitors so you have only the Rift running. In game set EVERY graphics option to the lowest setting EXCEPT the Rift scaling slider last from bottom, that should stay at max.

Assuming you have a decent computer you should now be getting a solid 75fps. Assuming you are you will likely notice a huge difference, and until you have experienced this, you often think that sub 75 felt fine - but once you feel it super smooth you will notice it.

Made OR primary and turned off other monitor. Options in ED say rift is at 75hz and Vsync on. Turned down all graphic settings except rift scaling.

Still getting the same problem. See area in yellow circle for example. View attachment 5231

It's entirely possible I'm just experiencing what everyone else with a rift is, but I can't be totally sure.

Also, I've played other demos and do not see the same problems. Is this because Direct mode is not supported yet?

You shouldn't be using direct mode. Its buggy and slow and also will try and sync to your main monitor which is 60hz causing the strobing effect I think you are describing. The rift needs to run at 75hz.

Stick it in Extended Mode.

I have been sticking it in Extended Mode the whole time. Running at 75hz. Vsync on. I can't see to turn Vsync off. Even if I turn it off globally on my system.

Any other suggestions on removing these annoying lines?

Thanks again,

You can do that in the options menue in the game under "graphics". You may also check if the resolution for the game is correct. Should be 1920x1080. Don't forget to apply the settings an confirm the resolution change if need be.

The V-Sync setting in graphics is red. When changed as I mention above, after selecting v-sync off and hitting apply it simply returns back to the on state when I go back and check again.

The resolution is always at 1920x1080.

Does anyone know how to force the program to turn off v-sync. Again, I've tried applying this to the global settings on the nvidia controls.

I'm trying to resolve my severe screen tearing and looking for help.
