Dynamic and evolving Galaxy?

Hello,

I am not sure if I'm missing something but I though post 16th the whole ED world was going to start evolving. David explained some interesting scenarios but do these only happen when FD are involved? I can only see three new galnet entires, any new user who hasn't seen the last 2 weeks news letters must be a bit in the dark. But this story arc seems very central to a few systems, this must what it must feel like watching the news if you don't live in London!

How do we get know about things like gold rushes, other than some nice prospector telling us on the forums like this Cmdr did in the beta https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=54791.

If forums are the only way there really needs to be an ingame player bulletin board. Or maybe a rumour section of galnet about people making big profits, this would help traders, miners and pirates!

I was expecting a new galnet entries every day, which we have had for the last few days but much more breadth. I thought they might have developed a system to create localised news stories or events, hence the lack of deep content in other areas.

I noticed in another post people trying to kick off civil wars, https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=79992 it would be good to have ticker when you get to stations saying where things are going wrong, nothing too detailed e.g. civil war brewing in x or unrest in x. The map could also flash if a system is in trouble. Should make it feel like stuff is going on even if you are light years from it. It will also give the impression of the stuff happening rather than the empty feeling people are talking about.

Evolution takes time... the game has been out 3 days....
Test something small for changes first. I have personally seen a trade route run dry after another player with a type 6 found it.
Tonight I am going to look very closely at my home stations population number, as well as the atmosphere composition of the planet it is around (terraforming station). Then I will compare numbers after the weekend, and at the end of the month.
I hope with some work put in by 6 months I will have made a discernable impact on my local systems. Like a proper station showing up, or a planet changing to earth-like.

This.

Players can't just do a mission or two and expect to spark a civil war. Otherwise there would just be wars everywhere...

If a player wants to feel like a special snowflake then this might not be the game for them.

I Agree It Should Take More Than 1 Player doing a couple of missions, but shouldn't there be war everywhere? Resource conflicts, boundary conflicts, rebellions, pirate uprisings etc? There are three things going on in ED, a slave rebellion, prohibition of onion head and the lugh civilwar. There are more distinct and separate conflicts going on right now in the middle east, a tiny corner of the world, than there is in the human controlled space in ED. No conflicts between the three factions, no conflicts from the factions trying to expand into independent territory, no pirate lords taking on fed bases, no other rebellions...the milky way is unbelievably calm

Or if these kind of conflicts are happening, they are remarkably under reported and we'll hidden from the players

Isnt this onionhead thing an example of what you are talking about? I assume folks would make their way to the systems that have been mentioned in order to see if money can be made from what develops there...

I haven't played many games online, been a Sim Racing guy for the past umber of years, but I assume that the attitude where people expect to see a plot evolve within a few hours is form the scripted type of games. The linear, scripted do this, go here, get a cookie games. I never expected ED to be like that, so I'm happy they it seems more like a 'real universe' that way.

As for 'Gold rushes' I found a nice little paladium earner 25 - 45% per chunk. First couple of trips back to the station were fine. Third trip there was a pirate waiting in the asteroid field. Fourth trip found 3 npc miners and later more pirates turned up. Then I *cough* accidently ended up with 2 slaves on board and had to high-tail it for Empire space which is where I am now... really wish I'd written the name of that system down. It began with a J and had lots of Ls and Is in it, but I can't remember the spelling.

As normal some of you have have missed the the point. I'm setting up a idea about how galnet should work for local issues. One of you has just come on here and just been rude. Yeah you Johnstabler.

It's not about me making an impact and hearing about it. It's hearing about what others do. Somebody already has done enough to cause a civil war, but did you hear about on galnet, no!

There are already things going on in the game, but it's pretty hard to know as a single player where it's happening. My example of a gold rush during beta was something that happened over a few days. My point was in ED 1.0, well 1.03, how are we to know about these events.

There needs to be a more comprehensive news service. This does not exist in the game, so triggering something is going to be quite hard to spot unless you stay in one system.

This game requires you to evolve, once you have achieved sentience these tools will not be necessary. No shortcuts, in the meantime use your imagination, you've been spoonfed far too long its time to pretend something interesting is happening or go away.

Maybe once multiplayer is sorted they will put 2+2 together but as it stands it's falling on deaf ears.

The thread poster was clearly asking about news sources and how players would generally find out whats going on.

Why do we need these sorts of replies?

I hope a planned news ticker is in the pipeline, like data it could be something you have to buy e.g trade tips.

1) but at the moment how do you join something that's going in in the other side of the known galaxy without some kind of news feed? I can't use my imagination, and turn up to a system and imagine a gold rush if there is no gold. David kind of alluded to this many times. Should have been in 1.0 as it's the core of the game philosophy.

Maybe there should be a section on the forum to do this? Maybe create it so it has ready made drop down boxes

E.g
Event type - war, famine, precious metal found etc ?
Where?
When?

If lots of players turn up to an area e.g because of a gold rush. The game would generate a new station. Or in a war it would self generate capital ships

Human pirates could also use the forum to lure players into an area, or set up player assignations?

2) how on earth do you know what games I play? Without an extensive list I played the original elite, and the sequel, and been involved in this game since the start of premium beta. So I have not been spoonfed. I'm just think that a automated news feed would make the game less lonely.
