Newcomer / Intro Invest in new ship or Sidewinder upgrades?

I can't figure out if I want to go Hauler->Viper right away, or just stick with the Sidewinder (since it doesn't cost anything if I die) and invest in modules/weapons/ hardpoint attachable pieces. Any logic for this, or is either path pretty much good. Is there a third good idea for a noob just starting out?

Putting money into upgrades is never bad since you will get the money back when you buy a new ship.

Although i would recommend buying a specialised ship rather sooner than later because finding the right equipment after buying a new ship can be a real pain.

Pro Tip: If you find a station thats selling nice quality expensive equip and weapons, make a note so you can come back later with ur new ship.

Okay. Thanks. So, you're saying, if I sold this Sidewinder after buying a new ship, I would get back the sell price of the Sidewinder + the sell price of the equipment and weapons?

Yes. And everytime i checked the sell price equalled the buy price.

Ive read that it differs from station to station but i have never seen an item for a different price so i think its not true.

Meaning you spend 50.000 on outfits, you buy a new ship, you get the value of our old ship + 50000 outfit value subtracted from the price.

OH nice, that makes me feel a lot better about throwing money around :D

None of this stuff is lost if the ship explodes, right?

If your ship explodes for whatever reason, you get present with a screen that gives you options of a basic sidewinder as you started the game or the option to rebuy your last ship, with your choice of the upgrades you had added to it. However the Rebuy option is far less than it would cost to purchase another ship of the same type and re-outfit it the way you had it. For example, My current Cobra MkIII is valued at approx 2 million creds. however if it was to explode, its Rebuy cost is 75,000 Credits.

It is lost but increases the cost of insurance. If you can't pay the entire amount you can choose to skip refitting some of the more expensive hardware on your replacement ship. Always keep enought money to cover the rebuy cost.
