Oh my - Elite Dangerous is a space station hopping game? (i.e. no landing on planets)

This guy is already outta here by the sounds of things.

I'm willing to bet he donated £10-£15 yet expects the full game + everything else.

Cheap troll is cheap.

I really hope planetary landings involve having a proper trajectory. It would be awesome watching noobs burn up in the atmosphere. :)

If they use the same mechanic for accessing station space by just getting to a certain level and hitting a button to "pop" into the planet sky, that would be disappointing I would love to actually have to manually enter the atmosphere.

I will say my little to this...

Why claiming and crying for this subject? After I played for 2 h with E : D I will pay anything to this team for any expeansion!!!

I remember to play my first one on my old ZX Spectrum and now, with my first hyperjump to another system, I was going to die falling into the star just because I was so amazed looking the high quality representation.

I can only say "Shut up and take my money Frontier Development" :)

That is a little difficult when said product was purchased as a Kickstarter backing in anticipation of great things from the maker of Elite 2.
I seem to remember it saying in the Kickstarter that planetary landings would be a paid for expansion.

OP's argument is the stupidest I've heard. It was in the 90's game so it should be easy now?!
A game like GTA V costs millions of dollars to make, thousands of people work on it. The games of the 90s you could make with 20 people on the team. When things start to look and act more like reality, the effort curve of replicating it flies up.

Wow, thought I'd pop back to see what people think of the game.

Frontier did get it's millions in initial backing, and will continue to get it's millions on product purchases.

Your's truly has been developing software since the 90's, and is well aware of the changes in end-user expectations, and the changes in the software development tools and resources available.

Credit where credit is due, the planets and suns in the current game look very pretty, but at the moment they are just that, nice looking spheres that you can only look at from a distance.

A question for the user base is, are you happy to play a game for hours that will take you from one space station to another? A subset of what Elite 2 was/is? If so congrats, you've got the right game.

A question for David Braven, can you be proud of this release of Elite Dangerous?

Sargon is correct that this will be a tremendous undertaking to do it right.

True, but remember that David Braben has already done this, back in Frontier. The real stuff will be generating believable surfaces to explore, and providing interesting things to do there :)

It was done in a much older game that has nowhere near the same scope as Elite: Dangerous. To say that it's already been done once and can be easily ported over to ED is just... No.

As it is currently the game is much more than just hopping from one station to another. Perhaps you haven't played enough to realize this.
Aside from the fact that at its core Elite has always been about going from one location to another. Taking the game to the next level is to further expand on this core and populate said locations and destinations with more content, more 'sub-worlds' and layers of complexity. The framework is set up contemplating these innovations. Yet currently, if you actually play the game, you'll discover that there's plenty more to do than go from point A to B.

Well, I really with the expansions be great.
Honestly in FFE planet landing was cool but no decent use. Mining machines that you collect minerals from, yeah, more or less.
But nothing that that, except starports.
So yeah, will buy it when its releases. Nothing comes for free and people need to eat too. :D

Enjoy your grind, let me know if you're still playing in a week's time.

Apologies to David, misspelt the surname. And yes I care about seeing Elite Dangerous being a success, and am highlighting that this is not it. If you’re happy with it, go play it.

I don't mind paying.. Especially as it's free for me =D the perks of been an early backer.

But yes. Have faith. David has a lot of great ideas and that's why the game is still in development. This is the game he has wanted to make for years so he's not going to fob it off as a station hopper.. I do sugget watching their YouTube channel and catching up with the past newsletters. There's tonnes more to come.
