So kill warrant scanners only look up dirt for wanted people?

I thought the primary purpose of the KWS is to look up background info if the NPC or Player is in the pit with any other factions.

However it only seems to check background info for already wanted units, How come it doesn't check unwanted ships?

The Kill Warrant Scanner lets you know if a ship that shows as clean in the system you are in is wanted in another system.

If you attack a ship that's clean in the system you're in, you'll get a bounty. If you attack a ship that's been scanned by the KWS and found wanted in another system, you're clear to attack / destroy it and collect the bounty from the other system.

I've scanned more than 100 clean ships and 100% of them turn nothing, What Am I doing wrong?

Probably nothing.

Almost all WANTED NPC ships are wanted where you find them.

I don't think you understand...The purpose of the kill warrant scanner is to find wanted bounty's on otherwise clean ships, So why does this feature only work for already wanted ships and not clean ships?

I have the same experience, clean ships NEVER become wanted when scanned with a K-warrent scanner. Wanted ships sometimes show a higher bounty; which is correct.
Does anybody have other experiences ?

I trust you're doing this in an anarchy system? You're also aware it won't "change" their state from clean to wanted, right? You can see if they're wanted elsewhere by checking your contacts screen. There's little point doing this in a system that has laws, because they're always going to remain clean there so attacking them will be a crime, regardless if they're wanted elsewhere. KWS is only useful in unlawful systems. Unless you don't care about losing rep in the system.

The KWS works perfectly for me. Made over 1.5m so far off it.

Try heading to an anarchy system, due to it being anarchy everyone shows up as clean but the majority are wanted somewhere else.

I've personally found loads and loads there.

You can see if they're wanted elsewhere by checking your contacts screen.

And this.

Isnt it quite likely that a clean pilot is also clean everywhere else too...? I also wonder about the various grades of KWS, could it be a range issue?

I haven't used the KWS for a while but it did definitely find the bad guys from other systems before, but maybe ask those who are using it if they have found 'remote baddies' or not recently.

I'm not saying the KWS doesn't work as intended, In fact it works as a charm but in my experience it only works for wanted ships.

I didn't think of the anarchy system being a good place to start, I usually don't bounty hunt in these systems considering there isn't an immediate payout from the controlling faction, Will try this however.

You mention the contacts screen to the left panel, I check these often and still didn't find a state change in the status of the ships being wanted. Imo, there needs to be Better indicated that "YES THIS SHIP IS WANTED IN XYZ system etc"

If you're in a safe system it is very likely a clean target will be clean everywhere. That's why we've said go to an anarchy system. More than 75% - as an estimate - of targets have a bounty there. But they show clean due to there being no laws.

The KWS is in its element there. It works. However, there was a bug recently someone found.

If you have a cargo scanner, the KWS may not work. Disable it and try again.

Works perfectly well for me.
I've had ships that I've scanned in lawful systems that showed as Clean show bounties after I've scanned them.
They will still show as Clean though and you will be Wanted if you attack them anywhere other than in an Anarchy system.

Ok I tried it in anarchy, I am wrong, My bad, The KWS works as intended, I just didn't check the left hand panel enough i guess, thanks for the help.

Right. It won't work in lawful systems on lawful targets, in my experience. That's because the game loads certain types of ai in certain types of systems.

They're either unlawful or not.

So, again, the kws is primarily useful in anarchy systems. Because hunting in anarchy systems demands its use.

You might think getting local bounties is better than anarchy hunting but you would be mistaken. The bounties are lower on average.

If you wish to make real money, take the kws to an anarchy.

Thanks, I never thought of it that way.

Question: If you attack someone in a non-anarchy system with a bounty for another system (ran by someone else), will you be fined?

I scan everything in Anarchy systems, never look at the left hand panel and kill them anyway, sometimes I don't get a bounty (guess they were in the wrong place at the wrong time ;))

But yeah, it only updates the left target panel, not their status in the subtarget window below the ship graphic :)

Yes. You have to weigh up if the bounty is worth the fine and wanted status :)

The KWS does not change the info on the ship to WNATED, it will still say CLEAN in the HUD panel.

So if you are looking there for the results of the scan you won't see anythiing.

What you do is

1. Complete your scan
2. look in the left UI pane (free-look left)
3. Open the contacts tab
4. Scroll down to the guy you have just scanned
5. Look in the info, at the bottom, for any bounties from different systems

As I say, the fact you now know he has bounties elsewhere doen't change his clean/wanted status in the system you are in. But if you now kill him you will be able to collect the bounties from where they were issued.

Hope thta clears it up for you.

Regards,

Thanks for clarifying this, it helps me understand how it works a lot better. However, I think it should give you feedback when the scan completes in a more immediate way - on screen or somewhere near "Clean", rather than buried in the contacts screen. Perhaps it is just me....
