Bug? Military Assassination Quests make you Wanted ?

The higher tier military progression quests in Empire make you assassinate evil generals. But these are not 'wanted', so you get wanted for attacking them?! Got negative faction hits for Empire and all present local factions. Doesn't seem to make overly much sense to me. And furthermore i got visits of 2 security vessels due to that which pounded me as well? Yet another fail on mission design from FD?

I'm not amused.

They will attack you if you wait long enough, just deploy your weapons but don't fire.

Doesn't work always. He opened fire as soon as i was in the USS. It's that buggy case where you are his first victim and the server doesn't get he should be wanted now. Should be designed with the general being wanted, i have a kill quest after all and there shouldn't be any prerequisite to open fire at all.

turn "report crimes against me" ON and they will become wanted when they shoot you :)

I have also had this bug on a federal assassination mission. They fired on me first but when I killed him, I had a 6k fine to pay for the "murder."

Note: My report "crimes against me" was OFF so this may be the source of the bug.

Happy fixing!

JAD.

You guys are so funny. Yes my report crimes against me is off too when i go hunt.

I have the official licence from military HQ to kill this dude. So anything that is a prerequisite like 'setting report crimes against me' or let him shoot me first this is complete nonsense. It's a BUG!

Killed three or four of these guys. They start friendly/clean, soon attack you and then you kill them. One time I got wanted for assault and murder, the other times no problem. Everything went in the same order, just once it was a crime.

No big deal, paid for it and carried on.

Did you read the line on the mission that said if you create a mess it is your problem and they would deny any knowledge of you if you got caught. Does that sound like a legal mission, well does it? No it is an assassination, murder so what do you expect. Some kill missions are for wanted commanders but not all of them .

Lost rep with the local feds (although I wasn't wanted) when I completed a mission today- but going back to the initiating station to 'finish' the mission sorted it and awarded the rank progression.

a pilot only show as wanted if wanted in the system you are in. doesn't matter if someone else somewhere else wants him dead, doesn't matter if he is wanted somewhere else.
it's NOT a bug.
if you have report crimes on and he doesn't flag as wanted after he attacks you first, that IS a bug.

I had the same issue but I don't consider it a bug. First time I did a hit, I never got the lasers contacting me. I fought back, 3 security vessels showed up towards the end of the fight, went afterf me, I was shaking from adrenaline, 50% hull, got out of there with wanted status, sneaked in to my home station with silent running and a frosted windscreen thanks to heat sinks. A real challenge. It was awesome.

Black ops, baby.

The agency will disavow any knowledge of your action etc.

Second time - idiot NPC target went off on me, I had 'report crimes' turned on... Spent that fight in reverse thrust beating them to death and deploying shield cells. It was too easy and actually, very boring.

Game is how you play it. It's mental, wicked exciting or... You can manipulate it into easy win.

The first I like. The second, not so much. Ranking with the navies (can't believe I'm going to say this) needs nerfed. It's a cakewalk.

There is nothing in this text that makes me believe it has something to do with illegal activities or black ops. The victim is clearly attributed as 'enemy of the empire'. That tells me that i don't need any further justification or prerequisite to kill this dude. So they either need to change the game mechanics to accomodate to this situation or change the mission text to make it clear it's illegal activity.

Also the "Report crimes against me" toggle is nonsense IMO. Crimes should always be reported. The toggle should be renamed "Call for aid when attacked" and just do that because thats the reason why i switch it off in the first place: the "helpers".

Edit: Also the 'Target Type' isn't displayed in the mission description. I actually escaped from killing the dude and didn't kill him since he and his two helpers were too much for my little Adder. Right now i'm trying to find him again but so far no luck. But could finally finish another one of these quests. Got a negative faction hit upon turning in too for some local faction?! Not what i expected but at least now I'm Squire.

There may be cases when you want crimes turned off. When testing weapons/shields with a friend, for example.

The mission does not clearly state it will be a crime, but you can easily see how it may get treated as such. If the target has the support/sympathy of a local faction I could understand it hurting rep with them and even count as a crime if they control the system. The problem is that the central Navy want the target dead and if a local faction takes offence it hurts rep with the major power and all the minor powers too, which is a bit silly.

Why can't we exit supercruise farther away from our intended target, if we want to be stealthy? The current way is pretty much jumping on top of someone , completely ruining anything that has to do with stealth.

Note that some of the intial mission informations from the bulletin board are no longer available in your transaction tab.

However I don't know if that's true for this mission.

Interesting. I killed pilots that were wanted in Alliance and Empire, in the Federation systems. Still hasn't collected the bounty for them, because I don't feel like going to those factions yet. They came up as Wanted. This defeats your explanation.
