Devs pls. explain..., Is graphics downgarded or NOT ?

I will try and get a few shots from different stations just to compare... I stopped paying attention, but do they not all have the 'smoke effect' from the vents?

Well, as you can see from my pics there's no smoke from the vents :D

To be honest, the 1.0 is a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOT better. It' a night and day difference in favour of the 1.0. Lighting, enviroments, and stations look gorgeuos. I don't know if it's a "placebo effect", but until last stages of beta graphics was really worse and raw. They changed the lighting render during last stage of beta and first gamma if I remember correctly and then tweaked it. At first I hated it but now I can see how Devs were right. There's an official statement on this anyways.

Next desperate "journalist" (hate to use that term) will report Michael Brooks removed pepperoni from the fan sent pizzas before taking a bite!!!! Oh the horror!!!!

I demand a refund!! Pizzagate has begun!!!!!

the biggest change is noticeable in the air vents in the cockpit - now obviously straight edged low res and plain, before lovely and round and detailed with chrome trim etc. I suspect you will get these effects back if you crank up the details mind but they always said that the max effects were in advance of current computer ability so I guess In a few years we may get the beta 1.03 look back. Certainly I noticed the cockpits looked terrible a few versions ago but they have got a bit better since then, they obviously had to reduce the res and details to speed the game up.

Yes and also notice the scatches on the dashboard.

The FPS counter in those beta shots kinda give the game away - there probably has been a slight reduction in the detail levels - the devs have already stated that a lot of the graphical fidelity available hasn't been implemented yet as it would probably melt most of our rigs... but the overall result in release certainly isn't MUCH of a downgrade.

I think the Sidey console has just been tidied up a bit - previously it looked like something you might have picked up from a dodgy 2nd hand ship salesman in Freeport...

And the internal graphics are definitely different station to station.

The stations are in desperate need of optimizations though, there's unnecessary details hardly 1% will ever see. Any place that makes over 50% drop in FPS to any other place needs work imo.

Lighting, ambient effects, volumetric shadows, they vary from station to station.
I even have a few sequences of the same shot taken seconds after one another, and there are variations in fog, lighting etc.
I just went through all my screenshots since the Premium Beta. I can't really say that the current state of the game looks any worse.
To the contrary... while flipping through all the images what I do see is a simply GORGEOUS game :D

From the Gamma 2.00 patch notes
- Sidewinder Cockpit Texture Rework
As mentioned before, it's obvious if you look at the angular air vent nozzles and overall blurry and low detail textures.
If it's for optimisations sake, make a bunch of different video settings so people with different hardware can balance it's performance output and the amount of bling they get, like uh... every PC game ever for the past ten years at least?
My setup handled the previous high detail version just fine and I would like this game to look great in any aspect.
Now it basically forces me to play with cockpit quality on "medium".
My guess is that FD just can't be bothered to bring other cockpits(namely Viper) on the same quality level Sidewinder had, so they downgrade it instead.
And people in this thread defending this decision are the reason why we can't have nice things.

BTW, where's the anisotropic filtering, FD? *ducks*

I don't think that the graphics are any worse than earlier versions - although there seems to be more "glow" from the UI and the stations look slightly different, but overall it looks pretty good to me.

What has definitely changed though is the planets - what was once a blurred mess now looks fantastic, you can now make out mountains and ridges, can't wait to get down there and see what it looks like up close......

I have to agree with you on this. I played ED from Premium Beta 1 and every time I had my settings on ULTRA. I didn't notice any drop or increase in FPS since then. So my rig handled the beta cockpit just fine. The Gamma/Release cockpit it clearly is more washed out and less detailed than the previous one.

This has happened before:

It was an unintended change the first time, hopefully it is also an unintended change this time as well...

The draw distance reduction has gone a bit too far to be honest. The level of detail Pop on outposts is just ridiculous and very very obvious.

I think its a case of striking a balance though to be fair.. some things are now a lot more detailed than in beta.

I prefer articles like this, a true comparison of before and after ;)
