How do people make there millions?

Im new to this game and im in my viper and i can barly make enough money to cover the ammo costs and other things and i hear all over the fourms that people are making millions everyday and i can barly make 200k in a day

First, how much play time is in your "day" ?

Second, what type of weapons are you using? It doesn't cost any ammo to use beam weapons.

Third, what are you doing to earn credits? Currently, there are claiming bounties, trade, exploration, and bulletin board missions.

For bounties, hanging out at a Nav Beacon with a KWS scanner can get fairly profitable.

Trade can net you 500 credits / ton per trip currently. Once the trade issues are corrected (possibly next week), that should become a better way to earn.

Exploration is a good way to make credits if you scan and collect system data from a close group of systems, then fly 20 light years away to sell it all. As you earn credits there you can upgrade to an intermediate or advanced scanner to find more unexplored bodies, and use a detailed surface scanner to increase the payout.

Bulletin Board missions can get some quick credits. I've completed missions where the station has asked for 4 of a commodity type, and pays 25,000 credits for it. Purchasing it at a neighboring system costs 5000, and now you just made 20,000 credits.

there millions! PIRACY!!!! but let's not go their. if you want two know, their is a video or too on youtube and reddit posts to.

well, the fastest way to the money is trading and mining i would assume. pirating and bountyhunting and exploring is quite a bit slower.

First thing is that "money makes money" - the more money you have, the more money you can make.

Second thing is that the folks making millions in short order are traders with a lot more hold capacity than you have in your viper, enough of a bankroll to fill it with high-profit goods and a sharp enough instinct to find those high profits.

If you're flying a viper, I'm guessing that you're somewhat combat oriented because if you were focused on trade you probably wouldn't have bought a viper at all, you'd have passed it over in favor of a cobra. For a bounty hunter 200k profit from a days play isn't bad given that you're not only getting lower returns than from pure trading but also having to cover more than a trader in rearm and repair costs.

I can put away almost a million a day but I'm flying an asp, kitted as a heavily-armed merchantman. It lets me trade, hauling as much cargo as a type 6. It's well-armed enough for me to knock off a pirate or two along the way for extra money or hang out at a nav beacon for a while if I want to spend a few minutes shooting things up. I could make more money than that with it if I were prepared to just grind but I'm not. However, to get the tens of millions I've poured into that hull and its upgrades I had to focus very heavily on trading, avoiding combat until I could afford to fit out a cobra, running the cobra to finance a type 6 (keeping the cobra for pewpewpew and as a backup, because the type 6 is another one where you don't want to stick around for a fight if you can avoid it) and using the type 6 to finance cobra upgrades and accumulate the finances to buy and kit out the asp. Along the way, with ship improvements and increasing reserves the amount of profit I could make from a single run steadily went up.

Also, quite a few folks, myself included, were in the betas and so had access right from the start of gamma. On launch day I was already flying a type 6 and had a cobra in storage, was able to make 400k a day from a couple of good trade routes that I had already discovered and mapped...

In a cobra...

500k per trip trading rare goods.

100k or so every hour or so bounty hunting..

Just bought an Asp 6.6m
mostly did trading, ran Indium 20ly out and brought back prog cells or performance enhancers back 78k out and 60k/65k back.
Used the Lakon trade ships ripped out everything, shields, discovery scanner the lot and added cargo bays. I did run a fuel scoop early on but a quick calculation showed me the extra cargo paid for the fuel thus saving me the time scooping fuel, so out it went.
A long day hauling cargo to 6m, Iv wasted so much switching out and loading up a Viper or a Cobra to go fighting when I got bored but I always returned to trading to pour in cash.

You can go to resource extraction sites on non-icy planetary rings and kill wanted vessels. I made 100k in 10 minutes earlier.

Support the Empire with some slaves. They get a better life and you can make up to 1.6k per slave. And slaves are the only resources with high demand so thats your best option for trading. Hail the Emperor!

Just look for opportunities in the game to make fast money. Mission running, trading big fat bounties, exploration and mining. In all honesty it depends on the type of player you are, do you get fun out of finding a trade route that will earn lots of cash or someone who likes to sit in a quite spot and shoot rocks to mine the resources?

Or are you more into the action of combat and if so you are best off looking around resource extraction points and nav beacons.

Bounty-hunting wise, find a large population Anarchy system and stalk the Nav beacon with a Kill Warrant Scanner.
Regularly see Viper's and Cobra's with 20k bounties, as well as Asp's and larger ships with 40-50k or more.
Easily make 100k in 30 mins or so.

Other than that mining is the best I've found so far, but only once you find a Pristine Metallic planetary ring.
Need at least a 4 bay refinery ideally.

Trading I don't see much cash, but then I'm only using a 32t Cobra.

I'm currently in a Cobra worth 3.8 million. 1.24 million was from bounties, 0.34 million from smuggling, 0.93 million from trading, 0.74 million from mining, 0.54 from exploring. I enjoy exploring and wished it paid more, but bounty hunting at nav beacons in anarchy systems supplemented by targeting cargo holds and shooting them as I do so is making me the most at this point.

piracy

Been hanging in a medium security system committing acts of piracy in a viper. 12t cargo hold. Frame shift interdictor. Cargo scanner. Yesterday I found a wanted Type 7 and got 8 tonnes of something called "Experience Jelly". Sold it off for 12k / unit. It was good money.

Also, gold, paladium, platinum, imperial slaves, slaves, etc. Considering you're not buying the cargo, it's pure profit. Gotta watch those bounties though, so I stick to independent systems. With a valuable cargo you can get 50k+ fines with one scan.

Can we scan with a KW scanner in Superflight mode?
i thought I could only scan once I intradicted a Wanted?

if this works wow that will increase my kill rate 100%

Where do I see the rating for security in a system?

In a 36T Cobra with a 4A FSD Im making about 1.2M an hour (give or take depending on interdictions / distractions on the way) with a rare commodity trade loop I discovered.

i find trading is best for profit, if you can manage to work up to a Lakon 6.
for example i am right now collecting 66,450cr profit for delivering 75t of performance enhancers, i also have a return tip back with a similar profit, so round trip worth over 100k.
Be even more when i fill up my 96t hold.

To summarize this thread, how to make best money (in this game...):
1. Go for consistent frequency of trade/bounty/explorer returns
2. Search for best amount of cash/time per cycle

These 2 parameters combined determine the efficiency of making money in shortest time, if you can also have fun during this excercise, you'r the elite.

the key is, not getting a Viper.... ;)
