Imagine THIS many stars to play around in!

I could go for the the amount of stars were presented in the Beta 2.x tube selection, just have a working economy and better missions.

Wouldn't a natural next step be to have access to "all" the Galaxies in the universe represented?
And then using the "Friendship Drive" at the core of one Galaxy "Black Hole" to jump to the next one.
"My Gawd... It's full of stars..."

Went there already. Hyperspacing there was long and boring. Supercruising around was boring. Just stars, planets, moons and nebulas, which were all boring.

The size of the galaxy was a design decision (1:1 milky way) not a technical one. With procedural generation you could make it virtually infinite in size, but at some point it gets meaningless.

yup, exactly and I think it got meaningless as about 5,000 systems....a lot of space that frankly I just don't care about

And yet some of us do. I'm heading for the galactic core, and coining it in on exploration data as I go; not to mention the credits I'm picking up killing stuff that interdicts me en route.

It doesn't matter.
Even if ED had "only" 1 million systems, you'd never see all of them anyway.
It doesn't make any difference if you drown in 3m deep water or in 300m deep water.;)

Not for the actual function, no, but for the feeling and sensation most definitly.
