Class of '84 and their kids.

I was 14 when I first played Elite. My son is 16 and thinks ED is amazing. How many other players have sons/daughters playing ED at a similar age to their first experience of Elite?

we are the same generation, greetings m8! But my son is only 9

I played the oiginal when I was about 14. Mine are too you at 6 and 4 to play. But they enjoy watching me play Elite and listening on the headphones to the sound effects. I`ve only put in a few hours but one of them noticed i`d changed my ship for a new one and the eldest said well done Daddy, heres a kiss for upgrading your spaceship. Sweet.

I was 34 when I first played (in '84) and now play with my grandson aged 6. (My two sons are probably embarrassed and think I'm going senile!)

Still have my BBC model B in the attic

Funny you should say that.. I still have my Electron and all my games in my attic. Even found my original Elite and save tape when I last looked about 10 yrs ago :)

I was 5 when I started playing Elite with my dad.

I'm 36 now, and my dad 70. And we're still playing Elite, though not currently together as he's miles away in game.

not the same age as i was when i originally played elite.... but..

talk about.. early access :p

I'm an 84er (39), and my son (6) has been playing the tutorials, but there's perhaps too many controls to get to grips with, he's also tried it in the Rift :)

I also used his name as my KS NPC ame reward!

He said your photos were awesome, Blake.

I too was 14 when I first played Elite.. got to elite, played frontier got to dangerous then played first encounters and achieved the rank of elite again.. been dreaming of Elite: Dangerous ever since and besides a few bugs I am not disappointed :) I had a stroke recently and cannot work until february.. but now i see it was meant to be so I could play E: D !! everything happens for a reason lol

once she figures out that the goal of that mission is NOT to pop the pretty rocks with the spaceship by flying into them, i let her come out of the tutorial (maybe) :p
she seems to like the resulting explosions tho, great fun :D

i love her dearly but the other day i could have given her away. she's 2 1/2 and must have some parrot in her lineage somewhere (moms side?)
i'm using voice attack, i got a macro set to hit the boosters (Hit it) and was using it to zoom around a station to get to the entrance. she liked the phrase apparently as she was in my lap doing her level best to help. Just about as i was ready to align with the mail slot she goes "hit it" very clearly and well, she got to see another explosion.

yeah, i still love her tho, it IS funny in retrospect and the insurance did cover it (funny how fast you get used to THAT phrase when you become a parent) :p

have fun out there commanders

Blake

I have a (real) photo somewhere of my oldest son (not even 2 at the time) sat on my lap helping me play Elite on the Beeb B - must try to find that!

I was 10 when Elite first came out but i didn't play it until i was 13 on my c64.
My son is 15 now and unfortunately ED hold little interest for him. He's seen me playing "space" games for many hours and he assumes this is just another.
Not a problem though, he has his own PC and spends hours playing League of Legends and Starcraft 2.
