Pirate Bounty Contracts - No Pirates in the indicated systems?

So far I have taken on 3 missions to go after pirates affecting between 2 - 3 systems. Each time I have traveled to each system, explored everything possible, and have found not one pirate.

Instead what I find are peaceful miners with 2 sissy escorts minding their own business. I mean is that what I should be going after?

Unidentified Signal Source. They appear (as far as I can tell) when you're in the system your mission is for, plus also using your FSD drive.

I believe USS is "Unidentified Signal Source" that seems to appear and disappears in random.
I found one of these and it turns out the "pirate" looked very legit and he has an counteroffer to go kill some authorities instead.
Eighter way i end up killing clean ships and not a nest of pirates i was hoping for.... disapointing

I found one in a USS and other USS only showed cleans. The second one I needed was hiding behind the planet the station was orbiting. I avoided all other Wanted in Supercruise as I've no Interdictor. We just all need more Training videos but too much can put you off doing it.

When I've done the kill pirates missions, it's usually in Anarchy systems, so everyone is "Clean" for the obvious reason: no local laws.

What happens is you enter a random USS and eventually you'll get the first stage, where a guy offers you some credits to abandon the mission. Ignore him and go back into SC (I've not tried killing him - I guess that's an option too). Keep exploring USS's until you find one where some "Clean" vessels start threatening you or another NPC and asking about your cargo. These are the pirates you need to kill. Target the guy who's making the threats and when you shoot him, his buddies will go red. Kill them all.

You might need to do more than one of these USS encounters to kill enough pirates for the mission target, but once you know what to look for, it's pretty easy.

Thanks Jongo for this post :)
Didn't realize the "Clean" status was connected to Anarchy systems.
Guess i'm going pirate hunting again :D

When bounty hunting in anarchy systems (or anywhere) you'll want to invest in a Kill Warrant Scanner.

Assign it to a fire group and scan their ship, if they're wanted or not, as it will look up if they have bounties for any other systems. If you don't do this, you wont be able to claim any bounty money from killing them.

NOTE: Their wanted status will not change as that is only for the current system, instead go to the contacts panel on the left and see their updated bounty worth.

Little tip with "kill x pirates" missions. Do NOT take them if they are in an unpopulated system. Anarchy is fine, so long as there are stations there.

Took a few of these missions, twice to unpopulated systems. In UP systems tge rate of USS seems to average one every two minutes and took two HOURS to kill the pirates (managed it in two pirate encounters each time). There were no contacts at all on the scanner either.

The longest it took me in an inhabited system is about half an hour to kill 8 at USS.

The game needs to seriously stack the deck of USS "cards" when doing a pirate mission. If the Navy wants me to kill pirates there, generate a load more USS with pirates please. Virtually every USS was some dozy freighter just flying around in circles in a system with no reason to be there beyond a jump stop and refuelling. They are not in trouble or suffering mechanical failure. They just sit there waiting in case someone has a "kill x traders" mission. It would even make sense to have pirates lying low in an uninhabited system, but no, just these stupid freighters. Someone should tell the pirates about them all since there are no authorities to care.

I actually don't find that much at all, just fly around in supercruise at the slowest possible speed they'll just start appearing around you, plus you don't have to spend ages lining up and slowing down etc. Works for me anyway.
