Newcomer / Intro eagle or side winder

Looking for your thoughts on how I should continue.

Sell my eagle to continue upgrading my sidewinder or punt the side to start pimping out the eagle

I'm about ten hours into the game so still a rookie

It's a matter of taste. The sidewinder is a bit faster, AFAICT a bit sturdier and more general purpose. The Eagle is more agile and (with a better generator) carries three guns which can make it a very viable fighter craft. Both come with rather restricted range through limited fuel capacity and limited upgrade possibilities.

A pimped Eagle is a lot of fun if you want to do mostly combat. Using that and getting a Hauler on the side gives you a bit of everything, but of course once you get an Adder you don't really need either anymore ;)

I think it comes down to combat vs trading.

You can remove the basic scanner from the sidewinder and fit a 2-bay cargo module which fits it out with a 6T cargo space, very useful for trading/scooping up stolen goods.

The basic Eagle you get is more nimble, has 3 hardpoints so will pack a bigger punch but only comes with 2T cargo space, which I guess you could fit out to 4T using above method.

I'm sticking with my 6T sidewinder to start with until I can afford a Cobra MK III, which I have my eye on (and I don't want to destroy my Eagle while I'm learning). I outfitted the Sidewinder with gimbled pulse lasers and it makes killing things 100 times easier... little tip for newbies which I discovered.

Ask yourself what you want to be doing in the near future. Then pick the option that will get you there the quickest. Some people sell both and go out fit a hauler and take up mining. Some (me) slowly made an exploration ship out of the sidewinder and made some starter cash that way, If you want to go bounty hunting or doing combat missions ten the Eagle is the choice to make. Personally I'd go with the last option after I had mor experience or do really well in th combat simulater/trainer.

What ever you choose, remember to have fun doing it. The sy is the limit and the sky is infite.

Ithink I will kit out the sidewinder as its a bit tougher and save up for the cobra.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

For now I want to go the path of a bounty hunter with the odd hitman contract

Not something I suggest doing but you can replace the 2 cargo slot with a four and the shield with an eight so you have twelve :) (Talking about the Eagle)

If you want to kill stuff the Eagle is the way to go no question. With decent weapons, power, distributor and shields it eats other ships for breakfast

I saw no reason to ditch either one; kept both and upgraded when I had the cash. I now fly a Cobra to trade/mine/explore and a Viper to collect bounties.
