Elite Dangerous Console Beta

I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Elite Dangerous Beta and Gamma testing.

If there is a console version coming out, I would gladly pay again to be part of the Beta Testing for either / both the Xbox One and PS4

Is there any news on a console version being released?

No, only idle words here and there. The only other confirmed version will be Mac, and an outside chance of a Linux flavour too.

Hopefully it happens. Not because it would be any good, because lolconsoles, but lots of dumb people own consoles and all that money could go towards new content for both versions.

Given the number of controls used in the game, I can't see it working on a console with 1 controller only. You'd have to really dumb it down which wouldn't be a good thing.

Wait. Hang on....no I just have nothing. Nothing at all. Dumbfounded at this.

Officially, they said that they are looking into the possibility (check out DB's previous interviews)
But for now they want to get the game at solid as possible on PC and MAC before they look into it. Which in my opinion is the best course of action

I play the entire game using an XBOX 360 Controller and never have to touch the keyboard.

They should first add the Planetary Expansion and first person content before developing console versions.

I dont think there will ever be a console Version. David Braben said many how much of an supporter of the PC platform he is.

I think this is for the best. Consolegames are a strange lot, i dont think ED would do well there even it you throw in HOTAS support (possible but rare, i think HAWX2 had it on xbox).

After the mac version we will maybe see an Linux/SteamOS release, thats it.

No. And there are no known intentions either.

Actually...

Frontier chief David Braben indicated that Elite will one day come to console - specifically PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - at the Develop conference last week. In fact, he told Eurogamer in an interview "we would be stupid not to".

"I've just got to watch out," he smiled. "I don't want to do something that constitutes an announcement, but we would be stupid not to support other platforms, including console."

Based on that I would say that console versions are "confirmed", but not confirmed. ;)

We have kind of already done that with the PC version.

I'm going to buy this on PS4. I think it will be a better game. It will have the advantage of us testing it, they will have learnt already what works and what doesnt, it will be right from the off, they arent starting from scratch. It will already be balanced. And it will be a more polished and a better experience because of it. It may actually be a less casual experience on console funnily enough.

Plus it will be designed and optimised specifically for a PS4 controller.

I don't know how the current generation is set up, because spending $400 on a warmed up netbook seems ludicrous, but the PS3 had surprisingly good support for PC-intended peripherals. 360 was pretty awful by comparison, very few supported products and most of them overpriced Microsoft junk.
