Regarding the pirate who shot down the OP, you weren't not being griefed, you were being hunted. Part of the game I'm afraid. BUT player interdiction does need fixing.
Also, leaving for a while might not be a bad thing. My main suspicion is that so much is currently missing because FD had set a 2014 deadline (30 years after the original) and really wanted to stick to it and that's why we don't have teaming functionality yet.
I personally don't want to see story arcs along the lines of traditional MMOs coming in, but leave the story arc at the galaxy level but with players able to efect the power balance at the system level, which in turn effects what missions are offered and even the spawning of combat zones, in which players can further effect the balance of power.
With regards to the missions, more diversity is needed beyand take X to Y, or please bring us Z etc, but there are only a limited number of mission types you can do in a spacecraft that's limited to space, but there's more that can be done than is on offer.
Better trading tools are also required, the inability to call up prices from a station you were just at is infuriating.
I could go on, but I won't. What I will say is, I'm not bothered by the incomplete nature of the game at the moment as A - I don't get to play much atm, and B - I think the framework that's there now is superb and bodes very well for the future.
And I will finish off by saying, yet again, a roadmap of upcoming features would be very useful.
