First new ship

So I've managed to scrape together my first million credits - doing missions and some slave trading, all in the stock free Sidewinder - no risk :) Its about time I tried a new ship. I'm not bothered about chasing to max riches etc, just enjoying exploring and testing out what the game has to offer. I am thinking of a Cobra but i have read here that the stock Cobra can be vulnerable (I always play in open) - any recomendations?

Its a brittle beast stock but you can kit it out quite well for 600k in the right system.
Depending on what you want tasking you want to do - having a viper as an intermediate is fun (sounds awesome too)

What recomendended first Cobra updates? Will have 400K or so to spend upgrading it (leaving me some for insuarnce claims when I bend it).

get urself a type 6 and upgrade it to 104 cargo, ull make enough to buy a cobra every trip in no time..

It determines how much power is in the capacitors for shields, engines and weapons, and how quickly they refill. A better capacitator therefore allows you to boost more often, fire your weapons for longer, and have more reserve power for your shields.

Per Mephane's concise explanation, as you can see it helps whether you are fighting, running away, or coming in for landing / getting out of mass lock while trading. The one upgrade that improves everything!

Recharges stuff faster - with an A class distributor in a Cobra, 4 pips to engine, you can pretty much constant boost. 4 pips to weps and you can run a full set of pulse lasers until the bad guy explodes.

if you have a million i would recommend the cobra mk111, bare with me, its a great little ship and you'll have money to outfit it. im still in mine (for now) im saving and getting my rep up. it really is a tough little ship, hope this helped commander.

Currently aiming for the Asp myself. I almost have enough to buy it outright. Will keep my T6 in the wings in case things go badly! :)

The Cobra is pretty amazing once you have some upgrades installed.

I run my Cobra with mostly b and C rated equipment and it's a totally different world compared to the stock version.

Even though I have an Asp, I haven't upgraded it much, and lately all I fly is my mega decked-out Cobra. Eventually I'll make the switch, but the missions I'm running right now really wouldn't benefit from a larger ship.

I'm really looking forward to tricking it out. The other ships I have had have been considered stepping stones to something more multi-role. Should be a lot of fun.

With a million you could build yourself a wicked little bounty hunting / assassination Viper. It's a fun way to make a living!
