Ancient Artifacts

I just collected four canisters of ancient artifacts. What do I do with them? I'm at a platform station right now, but I don't know how to sell them. Any help would be appreciated.

Just like any other objects that you pick up in space, they are marked as 'stolen' and can be sold on a black market.

To play it safe and keep from getting fined double the worth of your stolen goods, avoid actual stations. Check outposts first for any black markets, and if none are there, fly into stations as quickly as you can, and if you start to get scanned, turn on silent running (but don't bump into anything).

(I've no slightest idea of their value!).

Somewhere in the ballpark of 2500-3000 CR apiece. Proto tech is the highest, I believe, at around 3k, with trade data the lowest. Most of these kinds of 'signal source' unique goods are worth on average 2000-2500.

Use caution then as getting caught with stolen goods is just about the worst (and most expensive) crime in the game!
Stick to outposts as stations are tricky to get around the security patrols.

Not all stations have a Black Market - but its found under the Contacts section (where you can pay your fines and stuff).

I've found picking up found (ahem stolen) stuff is only viable if you already know of a Black Market station near. Otherwise you risk pretty hefty fines if caught/scanned. Took me many hours before I realised picking up cannisters was illegal (which I still think is a poor design decision) and that I was being fined for it. My initial 6-8hr learning session resulted in 400k+ fines in federation for maybe 40-50k profit. I've learned my lesson now lol and didnt repeat it in Empire space.

Good Luck CMDR!

Thanks for the help guys/gals. If I sell them, can I still be fined for it later? Also, how do I know which is an outpost? I'm kind of confused about that.

Once they're sold they can't be traced back. The different types of stations have different icons in the navigation panel.

Good luck, Commander.

I just picked up something called motionra jelly or something like that (just one) and sold it at an Ocellus port for 13k on the blackmarket.

Good news, I just sold all 4 containers for 2500 each. What do the icons mean btw (for the stations)?

Bigger stations have different icons (one's sort of a "wheel", another cubical (a coriolis station)).

Thanks! I get it now. If I land on an outpost like that and save and exit the game, will my landing spot be occupied so that no one can land there until I log back in? Just wondering how that works. If it works like that, I want to find a bigger station to stop and save at.

No once you log out the game just saves your location, when you log back in the game puts you in your own instance to start with so you will always have a pad.
When you log out your ship 'disappears' into a docking bay and doesn't block anyone else.

Makes sense, thanks.

That sounds like a rare commodity, not the kind of goods I'm talking about. You're not going to find that kind of canister everywhere, but you can find the ones I'm talking about anywhere.

Ok, how do I find out if a specific outpost have a black market. I go check in contacts and the last 3 outposts that I have been in LHS 3447 and the first one in Frigha dont have one. I'll do the last two and cross my fingers...
Thanks

Edit: ok - Ackerman Market... figured a large independant colony that doesnt have too many Federal Ships roaming around was a good bet...
