One Hit Kill by NPC is this really what Elite is about ?

Out exploring an unknown system I dropped into an USS, there was one ship, an Anaconda named Colossus, who said "Now You Die" and fired something that killed my Eagle with full health and full shields with a single shot. Completely unavoidable and inescapable death from simply entering a USS :(

You brought a paper plane to a big boy ship fight unfortunately. But with some skill, pilots do drop Conda's in Eagles etc. But alas the Eagle (nice ship that it is) isnt upto the challenge really against a Conda in most pilots hands.

Get payback once you upgrade to a better ship friend, and vengeance shall be yours :)

I expect he had Railguns or a Plasma Accelerator - these do make you die, and eagles are not the greatest ships for surviving... Collossus is a known target for the 190k missions you can get, and yes he is one of the toughest out there.

Next time, if you stay on his tail and not let his guns come to bare, you will not be as unlucky :)

Hope that helps.

There is always going to be a chance, no matter how small, for that lucky hit that hits just the right thing. So what evidence do you have that it was 'unavoidable and inescapable'? A single experience is not sufficient evidence to substantiate such a claim.

Colossus is hard.... i had really to struggle, to get him down.

Allways stay away from his front.... it's dangerous!

I like that the guy kept his word. Other than that.. it's avoidable and escapable but you failed to do so.

I'd love to know how, I was dead within 5 seconds of entering the USS, FSD was still cooling down, my scanner had "just" logged his name and his status as clean when he shot me!

If the Anaconda couldn't one shot an Eagle with an alpha strike (probably involving a huge plasma accelerator) I would be very disapointed. I suspect you didn't have shield hardness maxed out either.

Maybe the when you HUD shows enemy deploying hardpoints it could specify the weapon? It's not as though you won't find out anyway a few seconds later.

"Target deploying hardpoints: OMFG MEGACAANON DETECTED RUN!!!"

Sounds quite cool actually. Maybe a plasma accelerator?

Even a Small Plasma Accelerator will destroy a well armed hundred tonne ship with a single shot.

The large version has been known to be used as a planetary assault weapon, destroying selected areas of cities from orbit.

This has a devastating effect on the local population, because the terrifying noise of the beam cutting through the atmosphere can be heard for hundreds of kilometres, and will deafen anyone unprotected in the vicinity.

Because it's an NPC that won't miss with a plasma accelerator and you can't get out before it fires it.

Other than that, the OP probably should have realized a mission with such a high payout was way over his head.

Have come across him as well, fires a Plasma Accelerator i think, took my Cobra down to 88% armour with 1 hit (A4 Shields) so can see how it would 1 shot an Eagle. I made a tactical retreat at that point (read ran screaming) to fight another day.

In an Eagle it can be quite a common occurrence. A single hit from a plasma gun will pretty much wreck you. Hell, a single hit from a plasma accelerator in my Viper will knock it down to 33% hull. You're faster, and more agile, but you cant take the hits. Run away from big stuff in the Eagle unless you get the jump on them.

One Hit Kill by NPC is this really what Elite is about ?

After playing all three previous games and going against an Imperial Courier with 20 MW beam lasers in a anarchy system in a Eagle Mk2 then then the answer is.

Yes One hit kills by NPC is what Elite is about.

To be fair, I've been there, learn from the experience. If mission bounty >100k expect major challenge. However my little sidewinder did survive (25% hull left) might be due to all the upgrades on it :)
