After a couple of kills other ships turn hostile towards me?

So im bounty hunting i kill a few wanted ships then the feds and some other people start attacking me for no reason unprovoked and they are clean... so i cant shoot back unless i want to be wanted can you please fix this?

This is because the ship you destroyed was from the same faction that the other ships. Once you've destroyed their fellow pilot, they turned hostile on you. You can check which faction given ship belongs to in the left hand side panel in Contacts tab.

Oh, that thread again...

That was completely unnecessary comment, please refrain from comments like that in the future and help the new pilots instead. This will add in to friendlier community, as opposed to your above comment. Thanks.

I had the same issue and I worked out the faction relationship. However it is bugged because you should be free to "defend" yourself against a hostile ship without repercussion.

Your legal repercussions aren't affected. But killing someone will always have a reputation consequence with their comrades. imho it makes it more realistic to be involved with who you are killing and why and what your choices are.

A bug is when something doesn't work as intended. If the system is working as FD intended it is not a bug.

If you were in a system with a friend and s/he was attacked for their bounty (a bounty for attacking a faction other than the one you both supported for example), would you just sit back and let your friend themself or would you rush to help?

If you atrack another ship to claim a bounty you are the hostile party not the ship you attacked. Your last sentence doesn't make a lot of sense in this context.

Quite, when the related ship turns hostile should they not get a bounty for firing on you making them a valid wanted target too?

Certainly seems to be the case that I get a bounty for firing on anything other than wanted no matter what the circumstances (excluding anarchy systems). Why is it not the same for NPC's?

It's also worth noting that the "Report Crimes Against Me" setting can have an impact on this scenario. "Report Crimes Against Me" is a dual edged sword. If you turn it off, then authority vessels are less likely to arrive if you are attacked by pirates (hint: have something tempting in your hold to attract them. If they shoot you first you can turn them into toast with impunity). However, if this setting is off, then other NPC's won't be flagged as nasty criminals when when they shoot you.

Unless you pay a great deal of attention to your surrounding it's really easy to hit an authority vessel without noticing. I'm frankly terrible at noticing this and often engage with authority vessels without even realising. The trouble with this is that if you kill them, a posse of them will chase you out of the system.

As far as my experiences go when a faction turns hostile to me, any npc who shoots you will become wanted unless he is a system authority vessel, providing you have 'report crimes against me' turned on

That might be it, forgot I had turned report crimes off. Will test tonight.
