Need advanced help, getting bored

I realy want to like the game. Even bought a hotas flightstick just for this game and like the flight physics a lot. Except for the strange slow down when flying without flight assist.

But the problem is, as i'm not interested in neither courier missions nor smuggling, there doesn't seem to be much to do. I mainly fly around bounty hunting. But that basically means 90% flying around, 10% fighting. Which means 90% boredom while looking for possible targets.

I also tried some missions. The black box ones work fine. But most bounty missions also just end up with endless traveling and searching though. And the rebel transmission ones seem plain broken.

I tried interdiction, scanner for following someone into hyperspace. Discovering new systems. But it all ends up with at least 90% travelling.

What do i have to do to get the feeling of progressing and getting a decent ratio between travel and fighting? And decent income? The npcs are pretty easy, but still fun so i want to continue bounty hunting. I'm in a viper with small gimballed lasers and upgraded engine, shields and energy distribution. Seems already OP against most npcs. The only thing that took me down in a fight was an Anaconda. After taking one down in an eagle i got a bit too cocky and discovered it got a gun that can one shot you if you are stupid enough to approach from front.

What can i do to get some more action?

You get a kill warrant scanner and go to an Anarchy system nav beacon, You scan every target with warrant scanner.

Put your best fire retardant clothes on....

ED has potential and has many areas that can be developed but currently the game is kinda thin.

Trading is a spreadsheet simulator at the moment
Bounty Hunting is fun for a while but gets old pretty quickly
Exploration is odd that it requires around 12m credits worth of ship and equipment to do profitably, rather than something you can do from the start
Missions and the USS kinder surprises needs overhauled, they really should look at Eve for inspiration - USS's should be kept for rare events and the chance of some prize eggs
Faction and Reputation along with the wider macro power struggles are just plain broke at the moment.

My advice is to take time off goofing around and wait for them to add to the core game they have.

Join a group, to do something. If you want to be an Imperial pilot, pm me. Soon (start of next year, we are organizing and gearing up now) we are going with a Imperial Aid convoy to help Lugh rebels against the corrupted Federation dogs.

Turn pirate! Start hassling players for their cargo. It doesn't turn much of a profit, but it's fun!

Alternatively, join the massive NPC farm that is resource extraction points/nav beacons.

It's a sandbox. There isn't really "progression". I view it as able to handle quite well what I try with storyline games when I finish- I fart around and see what else I can to in their world than the funnel to the boss. Most often the answer is nothing really.

For more action go to the zones in the GalNet newsfeeds- find a conflict zone and pick a side. Bounty hunt in Anarchy systems, SC and stop at all USS. Some of the bounties are luck of the draw, some low some higher. Go pirate and try to hail players just outside of no-fire zones for their cargo, open fire if they don't drop something for you. Just be aware this gets a bounty on your own head and Players, NPC's and System Authority vessels will come for you. I had a bit of fun today getting a bounty on my head and then submitting to every interdiction and if it wasn't police- taking them on/out.

FD know they have to hit the ground running in 2015, adding content and pushing the narcotics, slavery and sucession stories going now, new tools (multi-player enhancements), and reviewing all the data from the holidays. But don't expect much more in the way of tweaks and additions until then. Tis the season to be jolly.

If you are a bit bored, put it aside until mid-January and then come back. I revisit older games periodically but there is never anything new there. The nice thing (if you are a glass half-full kind of person), with ED at this point is that development is ongoing and there is more to come.

When I drop into a gas giant rings extraction zones, I usually end up with non stop wanted targets to dog fight with, from Sideys to Anecondas. 90% dogfighting, 10% rushing off to lose an accidental wanted status! as the police usually show up to the party too.

Thanks for the tips, i will give it a try.

I used the kill warrant scanner at navpoints and USS and it worked well. I had like 40k bounties with federation and 2k with empire. Then i mistook a system for anarchy which wasnt anarchy and got a 280 credits fine. So i stopped shooting the target and headed to the next station to pay the fine.

The station then shot me down, instakilling me before i can pay the fine. And when i spawned with my old ship, paying over 10k insurance, the accumulated bounties have disappeared from my transaction panel. Now what the heck????
