How do you traders make profit?

Made now about 5 trades with my new lakoon type-6 transporter with 100t of cargo hold and I always got 12'000 to 20'000 credits profit... which is not really much. So what's the trick behind this one?

Or small fast ships and the right 150ly rare commodity milk run. Pulling in about 1m an hour in my 36T Cobra.

Repetition. Enless, endless, tedious repetition.

As Id have said on the forums of my other long time favorite space sims.... There is nothing tedioussss about profitssssssss.

Pay attention to the news, it gives you hints on where easy profit can be had. Aside from this, don't be afraid to explore a bit if you route starts to stagnate or you are bored. Log the station's demands and supplies and see if you can find something better.

Last night had a route 3 jumps landing me 2700CR/t, it slowed down by today (supply reset screwed it up). Found a new route today for 2500CR/t round trip 3 jumps.

Actually its closer to 1.2m an hour, but I was being conservative because I have to really be nose to the grindstone and not let anything distract me to be completely efficient. Its about 600k profit each way, and I can get there and back in just about exactly an hour if Im just locked in and totally focused (which, to be honest, is almost never)

Use Slopeys BPC too (or similar) to find a good route.... That or randomly travel around until you find one yourself. You may be looking a good long time though. With slopeys you can get a round trip in a 104 ton cargo holding type 6 up between 75k and 120k per ROUND trip.

Slopeys is really off kilter right now because of the trade changes in todays server update. Itll probably take a week or so to be accurate again, so take it with a grain of salt over the next handful of days.

More likely around 600-800k ;)

Yes I can confirm as I just made 1 million+ in 2 rare trade runs. 600k one way.

well I used to have slopeys market tools once... but it used about 30% of my CPU so it is not really an option^^

That's a pretty good profit margin. Bad news is ED is a painful, tedius, slow, unforgiving grind, it will take a long time to stack your money. Big ships with massive cargo bays is the solution.

Invest a bit of time in researching a good trade route. Try finding a large wealthy hitech use as a home base (use the map filters) and scout around to find some nearby systems with complimentary products and prices.

I spent a couple of hours finding a good run yesterday, then made 3 million off it (palladium/semiconducters, >1,600 profit per ton round trip). Hopefully I'll be able to afford an asp in a couple of hours to replace my efficient but brick-like type 2.

just searching fpr gppd station. my traderoute is 40 ly. and i have 1600 profit per ton.
with my ship i make 190 k for route. so it is possible

I make 140k profit one way in my 112t cargo Lakon Type 6. It's two jumps to drop off the cargo then I forgo getting anything else and make 1 jump straight back to where I came from and repeat. I make around 800k to 1mil an hour doing this.

I took my time (a lot of time) but made ~600k in one Cobra-load. Just under 250ly trip, but checking prices on the way indicates there's a diminishing return. I made a fair bit on exploration on the way too though.
