Are you kidding me?!

So I've been a backer since Beta. Been a supporter of ED for so long.... Now...... I'm on the fence........

I've got my Cobra MK3, Decided to go exploring like the rest of us have an itch to. I gear up my ship with the intermediate scanner, the ground scanner, some decent guns, shields n stuff... and I head out to make my fortunes in the unknown. For 3 REAL days, I go from system to system, scanning, charting, taking pictures of the wonderful sights. A few times I find the 'odd' pirate out 50Ly, 100Ly, 200Ly and I avoid the interdiction with ease. Seeing as these "Pirates" are flying around in Anacondas and Fed. Dropships, I choose to avoid them at all costs seeing as I can't save my progress, nor sell all the valuable data I've collected.

I get just over 300Ly out and just about 2 or 3 more jumps from my ultimate destination, A small nebula! I've charted about 60-70 systems in detail to get here (to sell when I get back), taking my time to map every inch of every system I cross. THREE real days gos by....

Then I happen across a little SIDEWINDER......... He interdicts me - No problem, I've avoided anacondas and dropships! - Well, within about 3 seconds of the interdiction, he pulls me out of super-cruse.... This is odd.... no biggie, I'll just run for safe keepings, Don't want to lose my data..... 3-pips to engines!!!! .....

....
....

The Sidewinder is gaining on me! WTH?! Fine, just fine.... my 2 class 3 gimbaled burst lasers will make short work of him. And they do, on the first fly-by his shields are down in a fraction of a second...

"NO! It can't end this way!" he says. he turns.....

He's flying at me....

RIGHT at me!

We collide......

His little sidewinder with no shields vs. my Cobra, WITH shields...

My Cobra spins WILDLY out of control before it blows up..........

so................

Back at my home port...... NO Data, No money, wondering how in the HELL does a little sidewinder end up 300+Ly away and destroy my ship.........

This is my rage post........ I'm rather upset....... I think I'm going to enjoy some time away from ED........ try to figure this all out........

A Sidewinder..... 300Ly out..... no shields..... ruined my experience........ ruined the 'veil' of this fantastic game.......

I'd love a response from FD on how a SIDEWINDER with 2 slots can get 300 LY out.. 1-slot for shield, 1-slot for interdiction, 1 slot for fuel scoop...... 1+1+1=2?

I'll see everyone in a week or so......

Cant you just report your findings like an adult? You are acting like FD wouldnt ever change or fix anything when they constantly do. And i had to read that "story" to get any information when you could have bullet pointed everything for easier understanding of the problem. You never wrote the Sideys skill (i think). That you crashed was maybe cause the sidey was fully upgraded with way better plating. Not sure. The one thing that sounds bad is that the ship flew into you. AI needs to be better regarding that (unless they shout KAMIKAZE! before they do it).

How they get far out? They spawn most certainly. Again though, i dont know if it had maximum upgraded FSD, and i dont know the way out there. Maybe with max FSD and the planned shortest jump route would work? I dont know. Cant tell from your post.

The NPC spawning mechanism in deep unexplored space is broken. This issue was raised multiple times but it seems that the Devs have done nothing to fix it. The current state of exploration is pitiful - there is nothing out there apart from pretty sights. No mysteries, no thargoids, no hidden asteroid bases, etc - nothing at all bar the odd aimless pirate NPC for no reason and ill-equipped to be there in the first place.

Why oh why would you save up your exploration data to sell them all at once once you reached your destination?
If stuff like this happens, all is gone. You've learned the hard way. Cash while you can!!

Actually NPCs stop spawning not much farther than OP got. I don't even bother with shields when deep-space exploring, because after 500 ly you don't see a soul.

Until you stumble across the secret alien systems and their armada turns you into confetti shortly before you start an war for humanities survival.

Don't let them ram you. Now you know. I actually find such mechanic quite interesting and kind of last resort equalizer for everyone. It keeps me on my toes at all times. Sorry to hear that you suffered though. But you still got pictures, right? :)

Once you get far out, there is nobody to whom you can sell your data. It should be a risk taken into consideration when deciding whether to go out into the wilder reaches of the galaxy.

I just about did myself in with a Viper NPC bouncing into me. It was all my own fault. I was too busy killing him to remember to duck out of the way. I was lucky. I had full shields and hardened plating. But it still cost me quite a bit of money to ding out the dents.

The other day I was watching a stream of some guy that reached the R CRA nebula and there were multiple NPCs flying around in SC and even a USS with pirates in it. I think it's less than 500 ly (~400 ly) from Sol but it's still wrong. But I'm glad to hear that they somehow improved it.
