Anyone else bothered by the lack of proof-reading on GalNet News?

Galnet is basically Foxnews or USA Today in the future, so no ... as someone else pointed out : they are actually better than their real life counterparts :p

... on the other hand, I find the lack of updates (with or without typos) on the galnet webpage disappointing.

I read the GalNet like a cheap newspaper: headlines only. Won't give them a chance to annoy me, at least until there's a link to the ship somehow. At the moment my play time spent in a station is play time that could be used for progression instead. So no, a missing proof reader doesn't bother me at all.

Why don't the ED team employ an illustrator to bring these articles and missions to life a bit?
Great idea - they could go with the line art style employed in the BBC TV adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy:

I must say that it does rather point to the lack of thought and care being given to this essential part of the game.

You have to hope that FD will start to take this seriously.

Love the game engine and many of it's mechanics. Shame about the lack of believable environmental chatter, as I would term it.

[...] Again, please do not take this as a criticism. [...]

No offense taken. I asked for opinions and you gave yours. And yours is backed up by an MA, or future MA.

I specifically remember that text that said something along the lines of "if it isnt cool in the federation than you know it really is NOT cool" - the use of the word 'cool' and the idea that that would appeal to me was just ...offputting really.

That was Georgio Algeria and he said "If the Federation doesn't like it then it MUST be cool. And you'll be cool if you help us." I didn't like that either. He's the leader of the Farmer's Cooperative faction in Kappa Fornacis and he's going to use the word "cool" as part of an official cry for help to the galaxy at large?

Maybe "cool" is considered professional 1300 years from now, or they were trying to drive home that the Farmer's Cooperative are unprofessional in general seeing as they're growing mind-altering narcotics and act surprised when the Federation bans it.

I would prefer them to be a bit more properly proofed, and perhaps just generally more elaborate and intricate.

Or maybe the quote is verbatim and he has been sampling his own product?

Yeah, I have noticed and it does bother me a little; as does the odd spelling mistake here and there. I've seen a few spelling mistakes in planet descriptions and what not.

Recently noticed that in the Elite Dangerous App they have spelt 'Competent' as 'Competant'. Arrrgh!!

I dunno, extrapolating the current downward trend in journalism standards out to 3300, and what pops up in the galnet feeds is practically pulitzer winning stuff

Extrapolating the current downward trend in journalism, I'm surprised 34th century journalists can communicate in anything other than grunts. :p

But yes, count me in too. It seriously grates on me, but I've been told in no uncertain terms (on the forum) that caring about spelling is unwelcome so I cringe, shake my head and try to move on. Often unsuccessfully.

Can't really bring myself to play at the moment as trading is totally borked. This sort of thing isn't helping, the core of the game is so cool. It's a shame it's a mess of half baked ideas, never how I imagined Elite 4 to be. Maybe I set the bar way too high in my head. I do feel that they will get everything sorted out however and the game might actually be amazing given a year or two.

I'm also bothered by the writting and sentencing in elite. Mission description sometime sounds childish and phrasing range from akward to really embarassing. To keep with the immersion I usually skip reading them now. -_-

I'm not really fluent in English, but from my point of view it seems like a subcontractor or a intern is in charge of this part of the job.
