Community Event / Creation Community animation, anyone?

I'm eager to put together an animation made collectively by the Elite community. It would be roughly 10-15 minutes long and be a fairly simple short story. Any and all community interaction is welcome!

For this animation, we will need voice actors, people to write the script, sound effects and music (possibly original, made specifically for the video).

I have made a very quick sample of the kind of animation style I use. I made this video very quickly, so the final community project would be of a much higher quality. It is also silent, because I don't have any good music or sound effects yet. You can find the video here. The video is unlisted, so can only be found with the use of that link.

That's a good idea. I've got google sketchup pro, but the animation is a bit limited. Do you have a story?
Also, I can't sing to save my life so I'd better not do the title song. How about Susan Boils?

Not a single clue what kind of story we would do. If I could choose, I'd get psykokow to write the script, and maybe even sing the theme song

I have access to Blender (latest version, with it being Open Source and all) and Lightwave (9.6.1 is my current licensed version) with which to do some proper 3D work.

I've been out of the animation and modelling loop for a while, but I'd like to get my hand back into it, so depending on what's required, I'd be interested.

Well, I guess you're our animator then. 3D animation is generally considered to be better than 2D, for fairly obvious reasons, and I have no experience with that. I guess I'll stick to voice acting or something...

I'd be willing to help out with some stuff, as long as the aim is for charmingly unpolished! Could possibly provide some uncomplicated music & maybe some SFX and ambience. I also wouldn't mind getting involved in some collaborative script-work and possibly trying out for a voice role.

Would this be hand drawn animation or something like 3D animation? I'm starting to find my way into Blender3D and would love to do some modelling for a good cause. (I am NO modelling expert what_so_ever!!) But if someone else would be more versatile in Blender he/she could take the lead in the animation and others could build models.

It is very basic and at that moment I didn't even know how to handle textures yet

. I'm a bit furhter now but into the tutorials now but have nothing from myself to show off.

Don't worry about my animation anymore. Mine was a simple, and in reality quite bad, 2D flash animation. Imagine it was never there, it seems 3D is the way to go.

It looks like the space ship part of an animation would be fairly simple after seeing that model. I wonder, does anyone have any experience with 3D character modelling and animation?

Yeah as I said this was an earlier model... never even tried to build a Cobra MkIII or something like that. I have no experience with characters... if you would keep the story ship-based (hey .. it's ELITE) the character modelling could be kept fairly simple. I guess that depends on the story you'd like to tell.

Yeah OK, that one was epic as it came at a perfect moment and it still gives me goosebumbs. Still: the guy who did the clip did not make the Cobra MkIII model he quoted someone else for that. So with a few more people that have some experience you could bring it to an even higher level I guess.

I was imagining a pastiche of an 80s kids' TV animation. 'Elite Force!' Alex Ryder and Elyssia team up with Rafe Zetter in search of Raxxla. Their goal is to put an end to the evil influence of the corrupt, cat-stroking villain who has set up a powerbase there, and sent the assassin to kill Jason Ryder. Mystery, intrigue, pew pew lazor bolts... And hopefully an awesome theme song.
