The space station must have of real damages ?

I ask myself, when the pilots have missed out the docking at the space station, if the space station receives of real damages ? If the spaceship has of real damages, the station must also have of real damages, right ?

If that was the case, it might imply that if enough damage was caused, the space station might be destroyed. Surely that will be impossible in-game?

I can imagine my amusement looking at other people's dinks on the bay walls only to then create a few myself

That said I wonder about the technicalities of storing the locations of such wear and tear - if each player's ship will do this, what would the impact of extending it to structures be like?

On the flipside stations could have shields that prevent physical damage like this

I'd like to see the evidence of years of damage at Lave station, caused by the new members of the Pilot's Federation crashing their ship over and over and over.

I hear that all space station are made out of the same stuff as those plastic dolls that always survive plane crashes.

There should be a bang and echo throughout the station. Maybe a minor vibration, enough to rattle the glasses in the bar. "Ah" says the elderly patron " another bolter."

I doubt it wud make any diff ship vs space station. the big diff in size for 1.

First reason , Space station hull wud have auto repair installed and Shields
second Space don't carry sound and Third inside it wud be a rather noisy docking area. that wud drown any newbie mistakes.

I think only annoyed ppl wud be traffic Control Tower that wud issue traffic tickets for reckless flying :D

Ooh, that's dark.

I agree with the idea that the station should show damage or wear and tear though. I suspect this will again raise the arguments about instances though. And then the one about whether or not this is an MMO.

Hehee, no point giving a ticket to a corpse. :p
Station/ship contact would produce shock waves that would destroy/damage the ship and vibrate the struts and panels of the station. As soon as those shock waves encounter a pressurized area there would be a sound, or at least I would have thought so. I remember seeing footage of two docking ships (can't remember which) and the camera vibrated when they contacted. I like the idea of a distinctive sound when a vessel muffs its docking; anything from a teeth grinding screech to a hollow thud and diminishing echo. :D

I think someone at FD has already mentioned that you can't destroy space stations but I think it would be a nice visual effect to see people conducting space walks so it looks like they are carrying out repairs and maintenance etc.

woof woof! - That's my other dog impression

Space stations will be indestructable, could you imaging the mayhem if you could destroy them. :D

And seeing npc/players working on the station would really add to the realism.

As if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced?

No, these are not the features you are looking for.

Acquiring missions to transport urgently needed specialist tools, parts or engineers in order to fix a station could be interesting especially if it means that a station will be closed for a few hours due to repair.
Someone else may get a mission to prevent (postpone) the repair so that another system can benefit from extra trade could be a reason which might be interesting to an evolving and lifelike universe.
(As long as the players cannot destroy these structures.)

Another good idea Flavio!
When you say postpone, do you mean shooting the npc's and players off the station as they repair it? :D

I suspect he means postpone as in prevent/delay the delivery of the specialist tools etc. In other words pirate attack the guy doing the other mission;)

I'm not saying that you couldn't try to, but don't blame me when you have a squadron of Vipers on your 6:D

Hmmm, well . . . they'd already be enemy Vipers if I was working against the station. In addition, they'd better be good shots. Otherwise, the misses are going to hit those panicky EVA workers as they flee back towards the airlock.
Sounds like fun! :D

I like this idea a lot :p

Yes - taking it a step further maybe the bar could have live video screens showing inbound ships docking - badly or otherwise. Drinkers in the bar could have bets as to the "most likely to crash" based on their approach to the station.

:D
