Lost a 65,000cr bounty, i want to cry.

I`ve only put in probably 20 hours so far so i`m still around the lower end of the scale in terms of money. Sick of being skint ,Today I tried one tip of going to a rock cluster and taking out some pirates. When I got there about 4 ships were attacking a big anaconda that was wanted, so I joined in. I got the killer hit and received a 65,000cr bonus. It felt like i`d just won the lottery. So I got big headed and started having a go at another wanted anaconda nearby . Big mistake! with in a minute it destroyed my ship. Goodbye my bonus, i was gutted!! I couldnt believe it when I restarted with a new ship that even though i had that bonus awarded i`d lost it when I was blown up.

Back to hauling veg I guess :-(

Yeah bounties are a decent way to get scratch, but they have to be turned into the Local Security Office Contact on a station in-system.

Well on the frist one you did everything right though. If in doubt let the NPC ship do the work and just grab the kill.
I turn in the rewards after hitting about 100k.

Unlucky - but your not the only one to go for 'just one more kill' - Dust yourself off and consider it a lesson learned. Going after Anacondas is a risky business.

Story to be learned of - turn in your bounties before going after next one until you're 100% sure you can take your next (and so forth) face on and win.

I got rammed by an Imperial Clipper and it broke my canopy, I was in an Anarchic system with 2 jumps to the nearest station. Ran out of oxygen just before I was going to pull out of supercruise at the station, so gutted. Had about 180k in my transactions panel...

I wanted to complain that having just 5 minutes of emergency oxygen seemed a bit silly and unprepared, but then I remembered I was playing Elite. Every once in a while you should expect to get screwed over horrendously.

Thanks for the encourgement. I did spend a few hours back out there but never found any more anacondas, just small ships.So just picked up a few 5,000cr bonuses but nothing of the size I had and lost :-(
I`m using a viper, fairly basic with just an upgraded power plant and a 3rd laser. I also learnt another lesson is that the turret type lasers arnt the safest. Had a few accidental hits on other ships rather than my target, costing me fines and a wanted status. So replaced it with a fixed type.

Just upgrade your life support. I use the 10 minute version myself.

65k is what you can earn in 5 minutes hunting cobras and other mid-sized ships in eagle. Not a big deal.
Come back when you lose millions in cagro or something.

I scored a 90,000 bounty kill on an Anaconda last night. I even got the blue text in the top-right corner of the screen but for some reason it didn't show up in 'Transacactions'. Gutted.

Buy a better Life support system.

OP, Greed is mankind's downfall. You get a good payout but you just need that little bit extra, over and over again until it all goes wrong. It's like deal or no deal, if the banker gives you good money take it, don't get greedy.

I know,but before then i was buying and selling stuff for 1,000cr profits tops, to suddenly find the jackpot for making money I thought , this is it !! But i was quickly brought back down to earth after being taught a lesson not too mess with an anaconda by yourself.

65k can be a lot to a starting player, to earn it in 5 min in the way you say is an exaggeration to boot.

I'd actually never thought of doing this and that it would give a longer period oxygen. Thanks for the tip!

At the very least, I think a D-Rank is light and gives you 7.5 minutes of oxygen.

As for the bounties, it happens. When I'm going to 'cash in' my bounty, I resist going after large targets as even if I can probably outfight and likely easily outrun them, if they ram me I'm toast and some of them like to do that.

You know you can buy an updated oxygen system. It's bottom on the priority list of buys until such time as you need it

OP - I feel your pain, I only realised you lost bounty credits on destruction after I died having completed a 180k assassination mission, plus the bounties accrued finding the target on the way. In total over 330k bounties, all because I forgot to ask for docking permission in my haste to get back...painful.
