So FDEV, when do the Explorers get some attention?

Clearly the "PewPew crew" have had the lion share of attention.
  • Ship Balancing
  • Weapon Balancing
  • NPC Pirates Nerfing/boosting many types
  • Missions/Mission tweaks
  • Bounty Tweaks
  • And of course griefer nerf tweaks

+ a LOT more..
Then traders have had countless, almost continual market balancing, route planning, not to mention the “Rare’s gate” saga, which continues.

*Polite tone*
So when can the explorers expect to get some attention?
Some things on my hopeful list are
  • Fixed target holograms for bodies
  • Commanders Log, for storing favorite systems and anything else of interest, Which would click through, for example a system favourite in a list would click through to the galaxy map highlighting the system.
  • Aliens of any type, friend or foe.
  • Rare finds, ancient alien stations or outposts, some tech maybe?
  • Maybe the 3D system map shown in Alpha?

Please don’t take this the wrong way, I truly love the game but feel us explorers are quite literally left out in the cold!
Do you have any juicy gossip for an explorer, apart from “The Thargoids are coming”

Kind Regards

I too want to see these things fleshed out more and I fully expect FD to do it with time...however...posting this the day before Christmas Eve expecting an official answer from a Dev is extremely optimistic IMO. ;)

I have just returned from Her Majesty's domains beyond the Coal Sack to acknowledge this thread and trim my beard.
Will talk later when I return from the Owl Nebula and have my Cobra repainted.

Aye, I look forward to see what they're going to bring for explorers, but I have to say that the route planning was more for us explorers I think :)

The stuff you have listed though is mainly additional content added to the game which isn't going to happen any time soon. The only one with any chance of getting sorted is the holograms one.

e: Not disagreeing with you, would love to see this stuff but you can't really compare adding new things to fixing existing things

The original post doesn't really compare like for like - exploration is currently in a generally solid state where the other roles have required some priority fixes and tweaks. Naturally there will be more features and content as we continue and I can see the planetary landings in particular expanding the exploration role.

Route planning makes a really different getting around the Galaxy quickly. I was surprised how quickly I was able to travel 150ly in my Cobra using the route planner.

Um Michael, not that I don't appreciate you answering stuff the day before xmas but... have you even decorated the tree yet? ;)

+1 Explorer here too.

I'm 100% playing to build up to getting a decent exploring ship - then I fully intend to just make huge trips out into the galaxy and see what I can find...

hoping for more unusual stellar objects.

was weird seeing that guys video get to the supermassive black hole in the centre of the galaxy, only to have a crappy NPC sidey turn up in a USS...surely once you get right out into the void, interdictions and spawned NPC's should fade away...

Oh...seems like I was wrong! :D

Rep given for answering questions the day before Christmas Eve!

ship balancing ? multi-purpose ship are still way to good (especially Cobra and ASP)

but i agree about the exploration features, clearly the core of the game, should be the first feature to be improved on the list

I'm not at all sure that exploration is the core of the game. It's clearly significant in the sense that you can be Elite rated for it, but I'd been surprised if more than a tiny fraction of players have tried any serious exploring. How would you like to see exploration improved in the short term? I'd argue that mining need the most dev love at the moment.

I'm hoping that exploration gets a bit of a boost in value. Right now it seems like a system 500ly away is just as valuable as a system 50ly away, making my 2,000ly journey a PITA. I thought DB said that the further away you get exploration data the more valuable it is, sort of like rare commodities, but doesn't appear to be the case.

Thanks Michael, it's had to get the tone across on here, I just wanted to know that us explorers are in your minds, the up-coming new features will be awesome addition. I was trying to draw attention to us explorers and not to forget about us in terms of current functionality.

I guess the holograms are artwork waiting to happen, that I can cope with as an explorer, but the system search (Ticket 00000009935) is hurting exploration as you cannot find systems you wanted to go back to, like looking for a needle in a solar system. Of course all of this can wait, it's by no means a game breaker, just niggles that can wait for the new year. In terms of priority I guess it comes before punctuation in a old mission description ;) - I guess pew pew's are happy now they are focused on text issues :)

I agree mining needs some love as well, but I think we can all agree 'pew pew' has stolen a lot of dev love.

I hope something is done about the apparent swarm of pirates that are just waiting to interdict explorer ships in deep deep space. Realistically there is zero reason for a pirate to be lurking outside of habitable space except as a hideout or something.

I think exploration just needs a chance of some sort of "rare find" if you're the first one to explore that particular place, a wild factor of sorts - something like ancient alien ruins, derelict ships, etc., which would either give you access to slightly better ship equipment or simply a very high payout (currently exploration is not exactly lucrative).

I agree that mining is in definite need of an overhaul though.
