So FDEV, when do the Explorers get some attention?

The original post doesn't really compare like for like - exploration is currently in a generally solid state where the other roles have required some priority fixes and tweaks. Naturally there will be more features and content as we continue and I can see the planetary landings in particular expanding the exploration role.

Michael

Road map would be great then we all would have an idea what is coming and when.....

would like some info on what these level 2 and 3 things are all about... just a hint from that nice MB pretty please...
Yes, please.
Obviously the devs had something in the works for this since it's already got a component in the game.
c'mon fdev, just a hint, pretty please?

They're following you :)

Michael
c'mon now. I've been interdicted by an eagle without a fuel scoop over 300ly from colonized space. No way he could have followed. ;)

The rare trading is nerfed to the point where its useless after you move up from a Cobra to a bigger ship.

Wrong thread, this is about exploration, not trading.

I hope something is done about the apparent swarm of pirates that are just waiting to interdict explorer ships in deep deep space. Realistically there is zero reason for a pirate to be lurking outside of habitable space except as a hideout or something.

You can get to the centre of the galaxy in a few hours. Is it really that surprising that pirates can do the same?

They diminish at 300ly and after 450ly you wont see a soul or an alien... yet ;)

Only up to 400 ly the big Jessys :D :p

Even if they did have the necessary fuel scoop to get there (which the ones who've interdicted me haven't), why on earth would a pirate go out there? It just doesn't make sense. Thieves don't go to the middle of Montana looking to steal stuff, they are in populated areas where there's a lot more opportunity.

Agree on this one. Also USS's with domestic appliances I found hundreds of light years from the Frontier of explored space. It would be great if there were another pool of USS's that could be displayed away from explored space, with some sensible interactions for the explorer. Failing that switch off the USS mechanic after a certain distance. The only thing an Explorer should be interdicted by is aliens!

They're all members of The First Great NPC Expedition!

It would be good to get a "price prediction" on doing an initial scan.

Right now I am blindly scanning each and every system with no idea what influences the price and I get back to civilisation and one system is 1000c and another is 40000c but vybthat point I can't remember which is whi h (or even where they were). It would be nice to get an initial assessment from the conputer, like "predicted data value :13.7%" or "small & unremarkable system" /"unusual system with high probability of valuable data".

Since I am doing a wish list, I would love to see exploration related missions e.g. go to system x and deploy equipment or pick up equipment or scan body x or collect atnosphere sample or otherwise *do* something more than just flapping around with the scanners

[Edit]
Sorry Matt, seemed like we sync'd our posts there!
[Edit]

Id love to know about more of the guts of the rewards for exploring. So far I have visited about 400 or so... maybe 450 systems out in the wilderness, iv had systems come in anywhere between 400-95,000 Cr typically, some of them are obvious to the reasons, containing terraformable worlds etc though im not totally sure what the breakdown is and if i am making a huge mistake by say, dropping into a system, doing an advanced scan, finding rocky things and moving on because they are not high metal content etc.

Also the level 1 and 2 detailed scans, I know they are a place holder for something later, but, would love to know what.

Biggest scan i got was of a blackhole system, came in at 190K and again, other than there being alot of objects, not many of them where what i thought to be 'high value' so that one had me scratching my head a bit to be honest

Not good....

This means exploration will not get any love until the planetary landings and that has to be at least a MINIMUM of a year away.

Sigh..

A fighter that size couldn't get this deep into space on its own.

Yep, planetary landings will be the dog's bitz. Looking forward to it. Thanks for posting and have a gud 'un (Xmas) Michael.

Edit : In the ol' days of Frontier your drive could malfunction sending you 700ly away from your pre plotted destination. To my mind seeing the odd craft in the middle
of nowhere isn't so strange.

Not how I read it at all.

All he said was that planetary landings will (for very obvious reasons) lead to huge strides in expanding this part of the game. It does not mean that nothing will be done in the meantime.

Actually, i think these are ok right now, i went off exploring and stopped seeing ANYTHING after 500ly or so, went off to SADR, passing through the Pelican and North America nebulae, the cave nebula and NGC 7822 region and didn't see a single USS or NPC until i was getting close (again 500ly or so) to civilized space again and seeing them was like "at last!, i'm getting home!"

It's a lot more realistic than the start of gamma when they were everywhere.
