Friendly Fire - My suggestet Solution

Every other day there is a post, complaining about hitting a clear ship by accident and getting a bounty. I personally have arranged so but to stop the complaints, how about this:

A simple (if not perfect) two-step solution

1. For attacking the shield of a clear ship you get a fine (even only on first shot or stacking for every attack)

2. for attacking the hull of a clear ship you get WANTED (and the prior fines become your bounty plus some creds on top)

clearly this can still be abused (by lowering the shield) and you can be unlucky and hit someone without or with depleted shield, but in most cases it will settle the problem.

There is no need for a solution it is fine as it is, just don't shoot other ships. Remember you are a bounty hunter not a cop or the local sherif, you kill people for money do you ever wonder why they got a bounty on them, no i guess not you just see the MONEY, hey his life it worth 30k I'm gonna kill him for it. You are only really one step above most of the scum that you kill, at least most of them just rob people and leave them alive. If there is a cop chasing down a wanted ship stay out of his way and if he swings in close stop shooting, he is doing his job you are in HIS way.

If you work on your situational awareness and fire control you won't have a problem, last night I took about 15 bounties for just under 200k at a nav point and did not hit one ship by mistake. The alternative is to go pro' and stop hunting nav points, get a frame shift disputer and go after ships in FS then you will not have any cops around to worry about. But don't forget to switch of crime reporting or they will still turn up.

But please stop asking for the game to be dumbed down to the lowest level.

Please, not the "doesn't happen to me" argument again!
There should be a fine line between "I made an honest mistake" and "I definitely did it on purpose" and currently there is no line, fine or coarse. This results in players being too scared to try things out, it's detrimental to the game in the end. Sure, the "31337" would laugh, but that's not the point.

Can we please stop calling people who want to keep it as it is 31337 and similar, there are perfectly valid reasons why someone might like it as it is that don't involve an elitist attitude.

If you want to get real technical, security and bounty hunters are doing the exact same thing: killing someone because they are wanted. In many cases you are actually contracted by the system government to hunt. You may be a mercenary, but from the law standpoint you have just as much right as anyone else to that target. Point being, you're on the same side. If - as some may be - you go in guns blazing, spray everything... you're a danger to everyone around you. On the other hand, even with perfect fire control, if you're in close and someone cuts directly in front of you it's quite possible that they are going to get hit.

Security are NPCs, they do some wacky things. Is it really "dumbing down" to have the ability to say "my bad" or something similar? If two PCs were engaged like that it wouldn't be a problem - you'd laugh about it later. But now there's no options, you slightly graze an ally and suddenly you're mortal enemies - even when the original target is still up and firing.

There's another slightly more subtle mechanism going on. It's not just about wanted states. How about ship behaviour?

So if you opened fire on another ship how would you expected that ship to react?

If someone opened fire on me my expectation would be that I would then be free to retaliate without repercussion, justifying it as self-defence. Yes even if it's just one shot . [with a beam laser?]

I don't call people "elite" without reason. The reason is simple: people play enough, they get accumstomed to how the game works, they find and apply workarounds to quirky game mechanics to the point they're not bothered anymore. That's reaching "elite" status (or at least "pro") status.
Now, this achievement comes with its own dangers: one becomes disconnected, does no longer understand exactly why someone who's brand new struggles with the very quirky game mechanics that the pro learned to ignore. Yes, the pro has perfectly valid reasons (e.g. "I reached the level at which this no longer bothers me"), however those reasons don't apply to the newbie. They're, quite appropriately, "worlds apart".

This is valid in RL as well. The avid driver doesn't understand the complaints of the pedestrian. The rich dude doesn't understand the complaints of the poor. They live in different bubbles.
Saying "your issue is a non-issue" is akin to telling the pedestrian "just bear with it, you'll get a car someday and be fine" or the poor "don't worry about it, you'll laugh at it when you'll be rich".

Fined and Killed Yet again

I swear this is getting a bit ridiculous. I mean I'm killing wanted pilots and the cops are in system and show up. Or maybe I help them kill them hoping to get the bounty. After a few there always seems to be a cop that wants to fly from off screen right between me and the target while I have my guns a blazing. Then I get a 200 credit fine and I am wanted. I can deal the with fine as an ops sorry my bad. But hell I don't want to even play this if every time I try to earn money I get myself in a situation where I am going to lose my ship over 200 credits with like 50-100k bounties attached to it. That is making this a huge waste of time where all my hard work goes down the drain b/c a cop doesn't know how to not fly into the line of fire. Please Frontier fix this issue and come up with some type of alternative than having to lose my ship to the 5 police in the belt b/c of one idiot cop that cannot fly right.
