Is the Asp worth it?

104 vs 120 cargo space. Unless the 6 can now take a class 2 shield?

Both use medium docking pads.

92T on the Asp if you keep the correct size shields and scanner. But how do you get 120 out of the T6? I only managed 112T without shields or scanner?

Edit: OP, the Asp is a super sweet ride. Go get one ASAP!

At the start of Gamma the Type 6 came with a 3E shield that you couldn't upgrade. = 104 tonnes. They have since changed the max hull rating boundaries of the shields.

Asp, if decked out for trading with a type 3 shield = 120 tonnes.

Fully loaded, 6 guns. Two lasers and two class2 MC. 70ton hold. Max scanners for exploring. Kill warrant scanner. I took a 500LY trip out to the Dark Areas. I returned 1M richer in Data, "found" cargo and bounties. I can make cargo runs and get 100k, plenty for my needs. I can chase down bounties and make bank. It is really the best ship I have had, and I have had EVERY ship from the Sidewinder to the Asp.

For the guy who says they are an easy target, those are NPC. NPC anything is pretty easy. You thought taking down ships with your Cobra rocked? In the asp I take them down easily twice as fast.

^--- this, pretty much says it all.

The Asp is superior to the Cobra in every way. Every way. An A class Cobra will likely be faster but that's the only edge it has. So in a PVP context (which isn't really important in this game, at least compared to other games), it'll make it harder killing players that are quick to run at the first sign of a tough fight, in Cobras (and Vipers) , being in an Asp.

Thanks. I'll stick with the Lakon 6 then for the grind. It's more economic for short hop point to point trading. Cheaper running costs and relatively disposable in relation to the ASP... unless I missed something?

right. for grinding the T6 does the job better.

But as soon as you can afford it... an Asp/T7 combo is nice to have ;)

The best FSD, and good Power Distributor, everything else D rank (the lightest of them all) - nothing in hardpoints...

You can get even more jump range out of a ship buy halving the size of the fuel tank (Or smaller if your a bit mad) and using a fuel scoop.

Had one briefly before the wipe and that is my current ambition. Deep space exploration and rate commodity is my way to go...

Loved my A Class Asp, until I had enough for a clipper that is. She burns through Anacandas and still isnt fully upgraded. (16mill for A class thrusters!)

Miss the jump range and ability to land on outposts though. :(

Asp is like the jack of all trades that can do it all better than most of the ships and no ship is better than it in "all-aroundness".
- Compared to all, it has a better jump range than pretty much everything
- Compared to smaller ships, it's better at combat but a tad less fun
- Compared to a bit larger ships (Clipper, Dropship, Type 7), it can land anywhere and, smuggle better. Most likely it's even more effective in combat.
- Compared to Python, it can probably just smuggle and run away better
- It can't really be compared to Type-9 or Anaconda because they are just top combat and trader ships

BTW: How is Python for smuggling? I run with cargo full of junk too often to risk getting scanned.

Thanks to drop by, just before I was going to state "no answer is also an answer". ;)
I didn't mean to blame all those who did not wipe. The reason I asked was something else. Before release I just made it to an intermediately fitted Cobra but then I never used any exploit nor did I ever used any trading tool. I even refused (and still do) to use certain hints from the forum and even refuse to grind. In other words: I play widely unspoiled. Now I'm exploring in an Adder and recently got at least a DSS. Compared to many others I'm such a loser but I still have loads of fun and I'm still far from being burned out.

Having said that I still feel fairly stupid for the wipe that I did mainly with the competition in mind. But with this attitude above it's crystal clear that I never will have the slightest chance to win and my question was kinda moot. But who knows, maybe I've already won in other regards. :)
I have time though, LOTS of time (my wife is still with me for more then 40 years, one of the least things I understand in these days)... :p

Picommander!
The good part of this game is that any way you play is OK! The unspoiled way and the others are ok.
I developed my own trading tool to get the best from my own data, and a spreadsheet to get distances and planning jumps... And use Slopey to analyze the market and as benchmark, because i "live" in a very distant system and I'm the only one here.
...if I really were in 3300 I should be doing the same with Office3300....

So I've a tool up cobra+Type 6 both with shields does anyone run the asp without shields just for the little extra trading or is that to dodgy? I'm thinking of selling the cobra (6mil) and to get the stock asp as i have about 2.5mil in the bank. but keeping the type 6 as backup.
