What do you buy after a Type 6?

I've traded up to Merchant in a type 6 now but looking at prices there's quite a big jump from the 6 (~1m) to the type 7 (~17m). Is there a 6.5 ship to work towards?

I am having fun with my Asp... Cargo 96t so bout the same as la6 but 2 med and 4 small guns makes it a trader/ explorer/ npc killer... Npc eagles and sideys cant reach me. Npc viper and cobra..2 passes and gone. Havent met anything bigger yet... And jump range laden +20 ly...

Concur. It's a better ship in just about all aspects. With an class-3 shield, it still can carry 120 tonnes of cargo. It also has a lot more firepower.

The asp can only carry 128t when you feel you're safe enough without shields

keep the T6, buy the asp for fun and exploring if you want,
but keep the T6 till you can afford the T7

I re-bought my Viper after trading quite a bit in my Type 6. I can't feel the justification for buying an ASP, doesn't really excel at combat, can pack a punch but smaller combat ships tend to dance around it. The 128 max cargo (without shields) is only slightly better then the Lakon 6 104 (with shields). And exploring is just not my cup of tea. FD really need to place some ships into the game that help cushion these gaps. At 3-4 million I believe there should be another ship available to buy (hopefully in the future). As from the ASP onwards, that is just a major headache, I couldn't bring myself to trade that much, my soul would crumble :D . So I'm just having fun in my Viper for the time being ;)

Agreed, as a pure trading vessel the Asp is more of a sidegrade to the T6. When it comes to everything else, though, the view, the sound, the weapon placement, the jump range, did I mention the sound? Ahh, bliss....

The Asp is of course not better than a T6 for trading. BUT, you can do trading and having fun in between with the same ship, which is a big plus.
Six hard points in tight grouping allow for fixed weapons with a lot of punch.
Additionally, the best jump range in game make it a good choice for exploration.

With release, I bought an T7, but kept the Asp for fun purposes.

OK, Asp for fun but keep the T6 for trading. At the moment I'm doing rare runs. I'm not sure about a T7. They can't dock at outposts? Did I read that right? I thought that was just the T9.

Agree 100 percent. Right now I have my Cobra all kitted out for bounty hunting/mission running, and a Lakon-6 for when I feel like trading. My next goal is to get the CObra up to an Asp, and the Lakon 6 to a 7. Of course, I may just go for the python and say the heck witha ll the rest! ;)

I'm planning similar. I set myself the same goals. Cobra - Asp. Type6 - Type7. Get them some pretty upgrades....

Then sell the lot for Python.

I love the ASP and wouldn't touch an hair on it. It is perfect for both long trade runs as well as smuggling high quantity of items.

Don't look at it as an upgrade path to the Type 6 which it isn't but the upgrade path to the Cobra

I would never trade my 'Morning Star' back for a Type 6! The frighter is a nice and useful ship - but it exacly this: a freighter.

I was so tired running away from every interdiction. Now, in the Asp, I can have the best of both worlds: Decent trading and fun bounty hunting. However, I recently switched more and more towards a battle layout: Two class 3 shield cells instead of cargo space did reduce my cargo capacity to meager 64 tonnes. But the thing is, I can always switch back towards a trader-suited configuration without loosing money. Maybe, with the new economy fix, I migth do so.

My next ship of dream is - as for so many - the Python. I am, however, a little bit afraid of the running costs and repair prices. They were already a bad surprise after I switched to the Asp from the Type 6.

Pretty similar to me.

Working my way to an Asp in my t6 as I type.
Want to combo the Type 6 (trader) and Asp (Jack of all).

Don't know where to go from there.......

I am in a type 6 right now, working towards the Asp. The Asp is basicly a Type 6 with combat ability. 104 vs 96 cargo. however...guns, guns shield and armour.

However whats after the Asp is a good question. Hopefully by that time more ships are added. I cant really see myself flying a Type 7. Tho I may have to.

That's how I see it as well. The Asp is part of the "multi-role" line which is effectively;

Cobra > Asp > Python > Anaconda

You could maybe add the Dropship too, but it doesn't really have the manoeuvrability to be a true multi-role craft imo, it's more like a heavily fortified cargo ship.

It's unfair to compare any of these craft to thorough bread fighters or traders.

i will never use a ship that can't defend himself and neither should anyone

Adder > Cobra > ASP are the best ships, masters of everything, kings of kings, it is the easiest way to play, the fastest progression, the most effective way

if you're willing to take crazy risks tho, you can try a Type 9 heavy

Just bought an ASP today... Awesome. Sold my Type-6 for it. Had overall nearly 11 Million bucks. So i could upgrade to B class FSD and other stuff. Cargospace actual 80 t. Is godd for rare runs.

Like the sound. Its like a WW2 fighter :)
