My god!...Solo, group mode and open play can't be the same universe!!!

This has been discussed to death during the beta/gamma. It's never going to happen. This isn't Eve online and it isn't a competition, so there isn't really a reason for it. There are plenty of npcs and players to fight. Most people either choose one or the other or just switch to solo to get into a busy station or whatever. Either way it doesn't matter since there at plenty of npcs to harass if necessary.

ok, make solo play single player without connect to servers...its easy....want a sinlge player play it... it absolut oddactions from solo mode take effect at open play mode....

Oh god. Could you please do some basic research before contributing to yet another one of these worthless threads?
There was an offline single player mode planned. It got canceled. What is left is all online, solo, group or open.

Compared to others 'mmo's', which Elite is not, I have yet to get bored. All that you have mentioned !
Elite: Dangerous is the spectacular new sequel in the Elite series of games. Head for the stars, take a ship and trade, bounty-hunt, pirate or assassinate your way across the galaxy in this massively multiplayer online space adventure.

From the store page, Elite is sold as an mmo

Im just going to copy paste a user review of metacritic that i think explain the poor decisions made around the multiplayer:

""Not a good game right now. Pretty graphics, great sound design, and barely any gameplay. You will exhaust all it's possibilities in one day.

Multiplayer interaction is close to nil despite always online DRM.

It's a game made for people who hasn't played anything but Farmville since 1984. They consider it a "hardcore space sim". It's sad what a waste of potential this game is.""

Even in open there are probably more players "invisible" to you due to instancing. Should they too not influence your outcome? Then you would have to have a multitude of "open universes". Which would be quite unfeasible.

That's a fair point but I think given that beating players is harder than beating the AI ships then any side that plays in private/solo will have a decisive advantage. I don't think this is good for game play - it means that everyone who for whatever reason really wants one side to win is incentivised to go private/solo. Players who like the idea of taking on a tough 'blockade running' mission against human opponents will find just the regular AI ships to oppose them i.e. back to the grind.

Maybe, just maybe, it's because people don't want to be forced to engage in PvP? You're a griefer, we get it. You like flying around with your friends shooting up lonesome harmless clean players. Tough luck buddy, you'll have to work out your real life inferiority complexes in some other game.

Thanks for adding Solo play Frontier. We're enjoying it a lot! If you want us to play in the open world, add a nice PvP checkbox.

Pretty much the case..

It works pretty basic when you think about it logicaly..
1 open mode server. That's it.
The Group mode just keeps anything but those in the group from SEEING the other players, but don't change anything else.
The Solo mode is the same thing, sane Open mode server, just the database is t not to show the other players...
It's just a standard database search of what data is displayed to the player.. the 'mode' just changed the displayed search from
0 = open mode (display all)
1 = Group (Display only users on {group} list)
2 = Solo (Don't display other users)

In those options the world continues, the effects still happen, but if you want to be part of that effect you should play Open or your input might be a but small.

I'm sure the op considers us griefers because we won't indulge his play style.

Anyway, I'm off. Maybe I'll see you in game after CM OP! Oh, wait, no, I won't. I'll be playing solo mode like the newbie I am.

A very content newbie though :)

he's just a pirate that's upset about the lack of targets.
The amount how upset he is isn't taken into accoutn in this post.

Really, as my cargo scanner has shown me every single NPC I've scanned (even system police) carry some sort of cargo.

To pirate you need, 1x Cargo Scanner, 1x Hatch breaker Limpet Control System and enough cargo space to carry limpets and stolen goodies. Every single NPC is a possible target, large and small. You can go in to USS or sit at a Nav beacon and scan away. Kill the shields of your target, fire a limpet and profit.

At what point did I need to blow up a human player ?? OH WAIT, I DIDN'T !!!!!

The OP just wants people to gank with his (or her) buddies - you can pirate in this game without having to ruin someone elses day, heck I made 20k in 5 minutes last night just sitting at a Nav point grabbing loot dropped by NPCs being shot at by other NPCs, I just went in, took the loot while the fight was in full swing and ran away with a smile and a ka-ching in my ears.

From the store page, Elite is s as an mmo

And?

MMO is an acronym for Massively Multiplayer Online

It does not mean it has to conform to some pre-determined design template to satisfy your expectation and assumptions. There is no law that says it should behave just like World of Warcraft or Eve Online.

This is fundamentally the big problem with gaming today. Everyone expects the next MMO to be just like the last one with zero innovation because the expectation is it should behave like every other game. The term MMO is misused as some kind of design formula that must be adhered to.

LOL!!!, you make me smile alot hahaha
PVP=griefer???? my god!!!
If any bounty player kill a wanted player is a griefer??
if pirate player kill a nother player is a griefer??

Yo have a big problem man.....lol

Bounty Hunter killing a wanter player, not a griefer.

Pirate Player killing another player IS a griefer.

You see, PIRACY = Stealing goods. It's the point. It's the goal.
Flying around killing people =/= a Pirate. You're in fact simply a murderer.

I really do not see the point of people talking about what mode play under and if its in a different dimension or not.

I play in Solo when I want to make money and I play open when I wish to hunt.

The reason I do this is because I prefer to be left alone when grinding away the cash, and in open play you get more bounty for killing pirates.

To each their own. If it upsets you that much how others play their game its clear that you think they are gaining an advantage over you. Clearly they do not as markets are effected no matter which mode you are in, it just means Solo players are invisible to normal players.

I like a lot this game.....but it has a big problem.... solo mode, group mode and open play can't be the same universe, they must be different universes.
It's really absurd, play the same universe with people you can't see, without any risk.... i can play solo make alot money and go to open play to fight or not without any risk...
What happend with pirates roll??? nobody go to play traveling full of cargo with the risk to be killed for players pirates at open play....

Please, make solo play like a single player at another server, cant be the 3 modes at same universe.

If froniter don't do that, this game go'll to be played only for carebears hidden at solo play, and never will grow up like a real mmo with a real inmersion.

Sorry for my english, i hope frontier do that...

Sorry chap but that's your opinion, I don't see an issue if people want to play in solo that's their decision they paid for the privileged same as anybody else who purchased the game. I by the way play in Open currently as a trader/explorer it's my decision how I play it affects nobody the galaxy is too big for me to have much of an effect on it. Pirates who attempt to steal my cargo will die or I will so be it, after all its only a game.

I need a beer still far to sober this afternoon!

Go to any MMO, let's take WoW for an example.
Go to a person that PvPs.
Ask why he doesn't just kill NPCs but goes to find players instead.
Hell, go to battlefield and ask why people don't play against bots.

Doesn't make any difference what mode you play in. I hardly ever see another player in Open anyway. And I've only ever been in combat with NPCs; a player has never so much as interdicted me.

I will point out that PVPing is part of the game, also PVPing is not griefing if the person they are attacking has a bounty upon them, no matter how small.

I kill pirates on sight. I kill wanted players/NPC's on sight this does not make me a griefer as I am not a player killer, otherwise I would be the one with the bounty upon them.

The simple answer to both your point and his is this, its a game where you kill other people for profit and gain. If you do not want to be killed by anybody stay inside a station hogging a landing pad because if a player doesn't kill you an NPC will try.
