So..which ship is Elite's Millennium Falcon?

I suppose we should first define the main features of the MF.

As far as I know the MF was a heavily modified with military grade stuff (illegally!) light freighter.
It's main role was of a smuggler. It was not combat dedicated or a trader.
due to that we know that:

1. It is very fast and very nimble (could dance around Tie Fighters like a pro)
2. It's capable of a decent (even if prone to fail :p ) warping engine
3. Had some sturdy shields to allow to absorb some hitting
4. Had as far as I recall 2 manned turrets which could destroy a tie fighter in a couple of pew-pews.
5. It had some cargo space for smuggling but not enough for heavy freight.

If we look at the ED most direct candidates it would be: Asp, Cobra and Lakon 6. (Lakong 7 and 9 are too big, not that nimble and basically dedicated heavy freight ships and Python and Anaconda are just too powerful combat wise).

The 3 ED main candidates conform in one way or other to the main 5 characteristics above but my choice is for the COBRA because:

- ASP: while perfect matching points 1, 2, 3 and 5 above, it feels to overpowered in terms of damage output. It's like a MF with an extra 4 manned turrets! So the feeling you get is for a more combat capable ship. The MF could do a bit of combat but it was more used for sneaking and dodging rather than full on pew-pew.

- Lakon 6: Severely laking on points 1 and 4.

- Cobra: (1) very nimble and fast, (2) decent enough size 3-4 FSD, (3) can fit nice shield gen and power distributor to make it survive long enough, (4) 4 hardpoints which may overpower the feeling of 2 manned turrets, it's not as powerful as an ASP or as lacking as a Lakon-6. Finally point 5: it has decent cargo space for its main purpose: smuggling.

Basically is a question of feeling: You want a ship that is perfect for smuggling: decent cargo, very fast and nimble and decent attack and defence to survive most of the fights. I feel that the best ship for that role is the COBRA in ED.

Also, of the ships you mentioned, it's the only one with speeds that can exceed a fighter with a-rated thrusters.

The Cobra can haul 50 tons. Of anything. Including high-volume low-weight items (think 50t of popcorn versus 50t of gold), so that's a LOT of space inside.

I take the OP's meaning to be:

"When people mention Elite, which ship comes to mind?"

Of course, the answer is the Cobra Mk III

:)

Now, if the question had been "Which is the best ship" then we can have a heated debate. Otherwise, THE iconic ship is, without a doubt, the Cobra.

I'll probably go with the Asp Explorer.

totally agreed, it matches in size, speed, cargo and fire power to the falcon, i can also imagine inside a chess table, and some place for relaxing and taking a coffee.

Cobra is too much fighter, and stylish for being a falcon, a dirty Asp can be easily a big piece of Junk!

For me it's probably the Type 7, the Asp, or the Dropship. All can carry a reasonable load without being slow and cumbersome, can defend themselves but aren't primarily for combat. The Cobra's the right size but you'd never fit four humans, two droids, a wookie and cargo on it comfortably - the cobra leans too heavily on the "multi-role combat ship" area rather than the "souped-up light freighter" that the 'Falcon is.

if i had to make a squadron for attacking the empire, i can imagine a lot of cobras, vipers and eagles for the main attack, supported by one or two Asps or dropships (that´s a good shoice too) like the big brother you always want to have with you when you are in problems. :D

I think the ASP is too OP on combat comparing the MF. The cargo capacity is about right (100 metric tons) but the MF was not that over powered in combat. I think you would get a better feel of a MF out of a cobra. It is perfect for it and not high maintenance for risky business.

Edit: the MF has apparently 100 metric tons of cargo capacity according to: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Millennium_Falcon#cite_note-Sourcebook_1-0

So far all the Lakons have had a single pilots' seat mounted on the center-line and extended out of the main hull inside a cab. Additional crew seats have been positioned aft of the pilot, back inside the hull. The Asp looks like it follows the same pattern, so we can't really tell if there are additional crew positions further back, or not.

Go to outfitting and internals and look at your Asp. The cockpit has two compartments, over and under. You sit in the top seat, but there is a second level beneath you with poor upwards view, but good downwards view perfect for manning turreted class 1 weapons. You can clearly see two bulkhead doors leading into the ship when looking in from outside.

Also, the shipyard description reads

'.. marketed them heavily at customers looking for their first multi-crewed ships... long-range missions and those requiring discretion.'

That there has MF written all over it! (well not actually written, more kind of implied) I was on the fence about upgrading from my Type 6 to the ASP, but this resusitated thread, has me looking at it with new eyes :)

agree on the ASP. It seems to tick all the boxes when it comes to being Elite's Falcon but we only have 15 ships to choose from in-game. excited to see what else we get.

if by millenium falcon you want to say "a ship that can do everything as good as specialist ship who can do only one thing"

then the response is Cobra/ASP, those ships are cheated as hell

i'm lucky being new to the game, the current line up is all still nice and shiny! i've managed to keep a decent pace this week, but it's been full on trade grind, i'm looking forward to chilling a little when i jump into my MF, erm, ASP :) but if they bring that panther into game, and its close to the concept art, then that will definately be the ED MF for me.

as to the question of which ED ship is the Enterprise and which the Defiant.. that there is a whole new thread lol

Millenium Falcon? That ain't a ship.
Now which ship is Elite's Firefly?

This one is easy. The "FireFly" of Elite is the Adder. It has two pilot seats, the actual pilot chair is on the right hand side, it has decent cargo space and can fit a weapon or two on it.

I haven't flown the passenger ship, so that one may be more like the Firefly, but for now, I will vouch for the Adder.

Ok, another ship for consideration.. Imperial Clipper, got mine last night.. She's fast, she's nimble, she carries a good payload, and man does she looks iconic!
