So..which ship is Elite's Millennium Falcon?

The Asp Explorer for me too. Used it for cargo hauling, reconnaissance, piracy et al in F: E2. Could load it up with long range hyperdrive and shield generators if required or take it all out if you just needed to do some cargo runs.

As for Firefly, it didn't have any weapons and was mostly a cargo ship, so I would liken it to the F: E2 Transporter.

Cobra for me, fast decent at combat and with a decent (if small) cargo bay. As a freighter the MF was no biggy, more suited to drug / gun running than heavy haulage.

What throws it off is, the Falcon is a heavily modified Light Stock Freighter. A standard YT-1300 won't have military grade quad blasters, that big sensor dish, nor a hot-rodded engine like the Falcon.

So while a stock YT-1300 might be akin to a Lakon, I don't think the Falcon really fits that profile.

I dunno... I keep getting stuck on what looks like a single pilot seat in the two recent Asp shots. A single-seater just doesn't say Millennium Falcon to me.

The MF was basically a smuggler's ship -- fast, multi-crew, able to carry a small amount of cargo and/or passengers and sneak past the authorities. That says Cobra to me, even if it's physically a little smaller. Cobras are more heavily armed than the MF, but the ship modules we'll be getting might have some Commanders shifting it more towards the smuggler role, with better jump range at the expense of a full weapon loadout.

If the Asp ends up being multi-crew, that would change my mind. But it sure doesn't look that way in those screen shots.

I understood the question to be 'which ship in Elite is the most iconic' like the MF is in SW. Not which ship is the most similar to the Falcon.

Cobra wins on those criteria anyway.

the most similar would be the lacon 6 I think.
not because of the shape but only on how it fly s (jump range and manoeuvrability)and the few weapons possible.

So far all the Lakons have had a single pilots' seat mounted on the center-line and extended out of the main hull inside a cab. Additional crew seats have been positioned aft of the pilot, back inside the hull. The Asp looks like it follows the same pattern, so we can't really tell if there are additional crew positions further back, or not.

In terms of similarity, probably the L6. Cobra is still the icon ;) Even Elite's engine is named after it ;)

The liberator now that was a ship, will ED get something like that?

Its odd, I'd of put the falcon at much bigger than the Cobra or Asp. It has two manned turrets after all so a full crew is 4. I guess being outfitted for passengers made it seem bigger, as it didn't really have much cargo space unlike the cobra etc.

For me the Millennium Falcon is the Millennium Falcon and the Cobra is more like a Cobra.
I think perhaps the Asp is the most Asp like and the Viper is like a Viper.
I am not to sure about the Anaconda though.

Maybe, although take a look at this enlargement showing the cockpit all the way back to the bulkhead. There may be other seats there that are dark, but I'm just not seeing anything more than a single pilot seat here. And of course this may just be placeholder art, so we'll see.

Good point, I hadn't looked that closely. I think you're probably right.

Cobra is the iconic equivalent to the Falcon, imo; both can haul and pew pew, even with the Cobra not being a decidated trading ship.

I don't even like the Cobra too much in ED so far tbh, compared to other ships, but it's still the first ship which comes to my mind when I think about Elite :D

The Corellian YT series light freighters could be reconfigured to do just about everything:

Cargo hauling, smuggling, and fighting. Just like the Cobra or maybe Python if you think the Cobra is too small.
