Every time I play Elite I find myself quitting rather disappointed

Edit: I've been talked out of my space trucking simulator state(trading addiction) and tried a bit of mining, post here

I told myself I wouldn't come to the forums and complain but I can't help myself.

I've played E:D since beta 1.x, and it was great fun, by far one of the most entertaining games I've played, and FD are by far one of the best game development companies, they listen to their community. but recently, since Gamma/release, I can't push myself to play E:D anymore.

Every time I try to play it usually consists of endlessly flying around trying to find a decent trade route that'll pay more than pennies, I've considered trying mining but from what I've heard mining is just more of a grind and less profitable than trading. I'm flying about in a hauler so I'm not even going to attempt bounty hunting.
I know this thread is just going to be treated as another rant against the trading nerfs, which I guess it is, but I don't really care. Grinding trading routes that gives me no more than 1-3k profit isn't entertaining, if anything it's the exact opposite, It's tedious and boring, Games aren't supposed to be tedious and boring. The only reason I was able to buy a hauler was from selling the Freegal from the merc pack.

E:D has the potential to be an amazing and extremely fun game, but for me it's the opposite currently, I would love to be able to come on and play for hours again but I can't, I've never found any form of extreme grinding fun, not in any game, and I'm sure I never will. But sadly most games released today revolve around grinding to progress further.

So I'm pretty much done with E:D for now, unless I somehow manage to come across a good way to progress in this game, I can't see myself playing it much in the future.
Rant over, I'm out, have fun.

My advice? just stop playing E: D altogether because you are burnt out from playing throughout the beta, Just give it a rest and your space sim Itch will come back naturally.

When it does, Try something different? Like combat or mining or even Exploration (i'm enjoying it so far)

A bonus is there will be more patches and features fleshed out on your return.

How can mining be less profitable than trading? :) Mining is pure profit and you don't need to invest in anything else but a refinery and a mining laser. If you find a decent system with metallic planet rings you can earn 200-400k credit per hour. I know you can earn more with trading but than you need huge cargo hold and credit balance "to play" with. With mining its enough to have a hauler, adder or a cobra.

And yes... you might just burned out. Take a break.

This is just what I've been told, I've never actually attempted mining yet so I might just be blabbering a load of rubbish.
That being said, after obtaining a mining laser and refinery I wouldn't even know where to start with mining

I gathered there were some changes going on with trading in the last couple of days that should improve your experience. I don't really do trading, so its just what I read. I agree with the role play comment, I tend to form a plan during my day at work, and then when I get to play, things happen that change my course. :)

Mind you, I've only been playing since Gamma.

Who cares which is more profitable, do what you enjoy and find the most profitable way to do it. For me that is combat, bounty hunting, pirating... whatever really.

The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent; but if we can come to terms with this indifference and accept the challenges of life within the boundaries of death — however mutable man may be able to make them — our existence as a species can have genuine meaning and fulfillment. However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light.

In other words: you get out what you put in.

Giving mining ago. How do you know unless you try. It will make you money to afford a cobra then you can do some half decent trading then get some weapons and you'll be able to bounty hunt.

It seems you're bored of endless trading, change profession to a Bounty Hunter then, its fun and has great action.

My advice would be to focus less on money and more on enjoying learning the game. Try mining, try bounty hunting see what you enjoy. I haven't traded since Premium Beta because I found I quite liked combat. Sometimes I make only a few credit and then today I made more credits in a hours play than I have since Gamma started.

I hate grinding - so I don't grind.

Just do stuff you enjoy and you'll find your credits going up.

Play the game the way you enjoy - it's not a race to the best ship... the journey CAN be fun :)

Agreed 100 per cent. It's the journey that matters, not the destination.

Pretty much this. The trade system in the game is a joke, so I never touched it in the first place. I fit for a combo of exploration and combat, and just flew around exploring and doing USS's. Now I refit for interdiction and cargo seizure and I've declared myself the one-man security force of an anarchy system.

Just do what you find fun. It might take longer to earn credits, but you'll enjoy the time spent.

You know I purchased the premium beta, I played it and well the bugs were getting to me so I did not play it, I tried beta 2 and the bugs were still there so I just did not play it, I did not want a bad taste in my mouth from the bugs or did not want to burn out playing it, now its full release I see all these negative posts about ED, I am eagerly ready to play ED now, I did have some docking issues but overall the game is alot more stable, all I can say is if I played the game alot in premium beta then I would certantly not be playing today as I would be burn't out also, I see stories are developing and activites are starting form within groups to try and destabilize systems, Elite is going to be like a wine it will get better with age.
